This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details.

  • Great Car at a Better Price - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I couldnt be happier with my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT. Its been trouble- free for more than 20,000 miles, its reasonably fun to drive, and it gets great mileage, especially on the freeway. My wife complains that it is too small, but it is what it is, a compact, economical, comfortable car. Also, with the hatchback, it will haul significant amounts of cargo when necessary. I even fit a set of full- size soccer goals into the back on one occasion.

  • What a Deal! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I traded in my 1990 Acura Integra for a new Elantra. The Integra had sports suspension, terrific handling, dual overhead CAM, and real spunk. I was afraid Id have to make a "fun" sacrifice in order to have the Hyundai Elantra. I was wrong! It handles wonderfully, corners and accelerates well. And it cost the same as my Acura did in 1989!

I like my Elantra GT more and more every day. Solidly built with a lot of attention to detail and an incredible value for the money, I have no regrets on buying this car. Its a Saab at half the price!

I love this vehicle. I was in an accident and although the vehicle was totaled I walked away unharmed. It is a smooth, fun drive and I am now buying another Elantra.

  • Read My Lips...NO NEW VOLKSWAGENS - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

My silver 2002 Elantra is an all-around winner. The 5-speed is a blast, beautiful fit-and-finish, great ergonomics...seems custom built for me. Inexpensive AND turns heads at the same time. Best of all...gas mileage. With apologies to Edmunds and Consumer Reports, I am consistently getting 38 to 42 mpg with the A/C turned OFF while driving 80 all day. This is one beautiful car, no matter the price.

  • Unbeatable Value - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I purchased my 2001 1/2 Elantra GT in June of 2001. I now have almost 10k miles on the odometer. I am very pleased with the performace of my GT. I have had no problems with the car and it has been a pleasure to drive. The most impressive thing about the car is the tremendous value it offers. A similarly equipped vehicle in a Honda, Toyota, or Mazda would costs thousands more. With the GT, you can have all of the bells and whistles without feeling guilty for what you paid for them.

  • Get it now! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I have had my Elantra GT for approximately half a year now. It has 6,000 + miles and Ive had 0 problems. When I first got the vehicle, I assumed that they must have gone cheap somewhere. If they have I havent found it yet. Theyve even gone so far as to put rubber inserts into the knobs so that your fingers dont slip off. Its a ball to drive and everything works all the time without fail. An excellent buy at any price.
