This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details.

I must tell anybody vividly how joyful I am to have purchased a Hundai Elantra GT 2002(hatchback). Its mechanical, electrical and physical features are about the space-age (with cd player, too, great!)--what more will I ask for. This SMALL-GIANT automobile is socially and economically created with prestige for everyone with taste of class-WOW! My family and friends admire it.

I was skeptical at first about buying a used Hyundai but after the first six months it seems to be even a better deal. I have owned Hondas and Toyotas but this is as good a car. Great economical and reliable transportation. 75K miles and still going strong.

  • A lot of Car for the Price! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Wow, this is a lot of car for the price. Just about everything is standard. Had to get a sunroof because of limited choice but that got thrown in for less than $400. In the end I bought at about $700 below invoice+ads+delivery (without a rebate!) by going through the internet rep. Amazing. Could have even gotten a GLS for about $1500 less but I wanted the standard leather interior and suspension of the GT. Added extras well worth it. Extensively compared Corolla,

I love this vehicle, unfourtunately it isnt mine. I have driven my Aunts car for a couple of days now, and all I have to say to anyone looking for a new car, but not looking at the Hyundai just beacause of the name....is GO AND DRIVE ONE...OR MAYBE EVEN THREE! I went with my Aunt to get this car and also drove the GLS and a Sonata. She bought the GT and it is a fun thing to drive!! Go and drive the others, then Drive Hyundai and compare prices w/STD equipment...I think youll be pleasently surprised!!!

  • Very pleased with car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

I only have the car a week, so more will follow as time goes by. It was a fun expericne dealing with the dealer. (A tip of the hat to Jim & Woody.) The car with the automatic is a lot better then I thought it would be, I cant wait to get by my self imposed break in time, so I can open up the engine more. Fun to drive, I have the ABS with traction control, moon-roof, car came with spoiler, which was listed on the sticker, not a dealer add on. Check Carsdirect.com also, they had the spoiler listed to see invoice & MSRP. price, edmonds did not list it. C.D. plays well, just an enjoyable car. Will update info as I have car longer.

  • Still digging this car! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Bought my silver GT in Fall 2001 & have really enjoyed it for the past 3 years (current miles = 29K). I really like the body style (similar to a Saab 93) and for the price I got a LOT more car than I would have in a Honda, Toyota or VW. There are some ongoing & annoying “defects” (e.g. windshield washers are always getting clogged, gas tank door latch must be pulled several times to open, a lack of lighting in the rear seating area). But again, for the money I got a reliable, fun little car that I love and that I’m sure Ill continue to enjoy driving for many years to come.

  • Surprised - 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Initially I was a skeptic. This was the one car my then-fiance (now husband) reviewed without me, so when he purchased it, without me, I was rather upset and also concern about not knowing much about it. However, since then, I have been amazed at how the Elantra has "handled me". Weve since recommended the Hyundai name to many of our friends.
