This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

I brought my vehicle(not a Hyundai)in for a tune up and too kill time I went to the dealership next door and started test driving vehicles to see what kind of vehicle I wanted to own. I took the 5 speed for a ride & then the automatic. I loved them both. They were both roomy & comfortable, I couldnt figure which one I wanted. They were both awesome. They both had speed. I chose the automatic because of the sunroof & kenwood mp3 player. I still plan on getting the 5 speed. I get great gas mileage.

they fail to tell you how much is excluded from the warranty and non warranty repairs are very expensive

  • Great Car - Style/Safety/Price Superb - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I own 2 Elantras. They are great vehicles re: price, style, quality, performance and, in my opinion, safety. I recently skidded on ice and hit a tree broadside on drivers side w/my 2002 Elantra). The drivers *side* airbag (not available on many more expensive cars) deployed and likely saved my life. I got top dollar on the "totaled car" -- so they hold their value) and I promptly bought a 2004 to join my 2003. Got super customer service, as well!

  • Exactly what I need. - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I use this car as a daily commuter in Houston and for about once monthly trips home to Louisiana. Gas mileage averages 27/28 mpg in combined city/highway driving, and mileage on the highway varies depending on how much speeding up/slowing down I have to do for 18 wheelers and slower traffic. I have gotten as good as 40 mpg on one trip setting the cruise control on 70. The car is remarkably comfortable and quiet for a compact car. The OEM tires have nearly 40,000 miles on them and will soon need replacing (strangely, the rear tires wore down sooner than the front tires, having never been rotated.) I am a very heavy man and the car is quite comfortable, even on my 4 hour road trips.

Power is readily accessible and substantial. Suspension is firm to a point then breaks to real soft. Im considering changing the springs to Eibachs so not as high of a roll-over feel.

Purchased an 04 preowned Elantra with only 10K miles and saved even thousands more for a really nice car. Comfortable, secure, good mileage, love it.

First Hyundai was a 1991 Excel. Got 36 mpg. This 04 Elantra GLS with Automatic is fun to drive. It just wants to go!!!! Got it with 28K miles and Im getting 35 mpg. Better than rated.

It is a great fun to drive with Elantra. Fuel economy and reliability can not be criticized in comparison with those of Civic and Corolla. Interior design is well-organized. One drawback is not equipped with ABS. but 2007 will be standard. I hope I soon get that too.
