This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

  • So far so good - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I received this car new as a graduation gift and since I have put on 78,000 miles and have had it just shy of 3 years. It has been a dependable car, and has had no mechanical issues since 2004. I dont know if I would by a Hyundai again, not that it has been bad, but rather because although it has been a good car, the scheduled mantainence is rather pricy, and rather frequent. Gas mileage also needs to improve over what it is (never above 30 in city...expect around 27/8, never above 34 highway...expect 31) If looking at cars, definitely give this one a look.

  • A good car for the price - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

This replaced a Camry that had too much crash customizing. Overall, the car is well designed. With the rear seat down it holds a large amount of cargo considering the size of the car. There is adequate legroom for people over six feet tall. Sunroof tilts up to open as a no-draft. Less noise than opening a window. Still noisy though. Overall noise with all windows and roof closed is acceptable but not non-existent.

Great car, love to drive it. No problems. BTW the dealership treated me like gold all the way thru. And I paid $4k less than sticker.

  • 2004 GT hatchback - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Only have a few hundred miles on the car, but the driving experience so far has been very positive. We bought the GT hatchback, and the stiffer suspension does introduce road vibration -- but the precise control through turns and on windy roads is great. The automatic transmission has a lot of zip in first and the lower range of second, but bogs down a bit under acceleration at 40mph+. Rear seats are tight in terms of leg room unless the folks up front scoot forward. One nice improvement over the 2003 is that the childseat tether anchors are no longer back at the back of the hatch area...they are directly below the rear seat backs.

This car has been great and has everything I wanted at a phenomenal price and the warranty is incomparable! Only problems were with alternator/battery that went dead in first 10 months. Radio also just glitched out and went dead. Both problems were repaired very quickly and congenially! Very happy!

  • Love my new Elantra GT!!! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Great, responsive car for the money! We got the fully loaded GT w/the sunroof and ABS system for 13,700! The seats may still need breaking in as they are extremely stiff, and the gas mileage should be better for such a small car - my Intrepid gets almost as good of mileage. Overall, very fun car to drive - I love to watch the stereo change colors at night!

  • 2004 Hyundai Elantra ;) - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Plenty of get up and go, I drive alot through steep mountains with the AC on and do not lose much (if any) power. Passes other cars with ease on steep inclines. Very comfortable seating with plenty of room, the seats are wider than other cars in its class. You get alot of extras for an inexpensive price. You cannot beat the price, paid a little over 11k and a comparable Honda or Toyota would have been 15-16k. No need to pay extra for an extended warranty, comes with an awesome standard warranty. I would suggest this car to anyone. Why pay more for less, this car rocks;)
