Overview & Reviews
Hyundai's Elantra sedan was redesigned last year, but the big news for 2002 is the release of the GT version, an all-new five-door hatchback that boasts such upscale standard equipment as a leather-trimmed interior, European suspension tuning, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch wheels, foglamps and a CD player. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
- Funky front styling details.

Three Years, Still Love It - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Geoffrey - October 19 - 4:30 pmIts been a wonderful experience so far. One small plastic failure, otherwise nothing but consumables. Still fun to drive, still feels solid. I miss the ABS and the interior noise at highway speeds is more than Id like. The experience is good enough that my wife bought a duplicate a year later. Were both pleased with the decisions.

What a surprise - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By bshartley - October 8 - 10:00 amBought this for my wife a year ago. She likes is better than her 1996 Saturn which we now seldom drive since it has become the dingy for our RV. We both feel with higher seating and more leg room up front it is more comfortable than the Saturn on both short and long trips. It is well appointed with all of the controls in easy, logical reach. Its peppy and handles well in traffic. Our friends who are rather tall even have room in the back seat. And to top it all off, it looks great.

Excellent Car - I was Surprised!!! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Nate - October 6 - 9:31 pmIm at 35,000 miles on my Elantra GT and have loved every bit of the driving. Car warranty is excellent and valuable. The car has just been fantastic. Im glad I did not buy a Honda or Toyota based on reputation alone. Rather, I did my research on Hyundai, found out that their mgmt changed in the late 1990s and that their new focus was on quality. That shows through with their new models, so if you are a Hyundai hater, then you are just misinformed. Take a test drive! These are fantastic cars and I have high standards!!! Hands down better value than civic or corolla, plus you get the warranty. Only downside is resale value. If you buy one, plan to drive it for a long time.

Highly Recomend - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By H TURNER - September 17 - 9:15 pmAlmost 104,000 miles. I drive this car. If I do 55 -60 mph I can get 32mpg Everything has held up well and hyundi dealer has been great. I do not use them for service but when i need them they have been there. I compared it to civic, coralla, focus etc. I can buy a new 2005 for less then my 2002.

LIFE SAVER! - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By ringman - July 14 - 10:41 pmI bought this car in May, 2005 for my daughter (it only had 28000 miles). I own 2 mercedes and a vette, but this car was quite comfortable and well built for the price --- definitely a great value. On July 4, a drunk driver collided with my daughter head-on on the freeway (est. closing speed of 140 mph!). My daughter survived with bruises and a back injury which she will recover from --- but, she may have been killed or paralyzed in another car (as was the passenger of the other car). As I see it, this car saved her life!!!

Fantastic Car - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Farm - May 7 - 10:00 amThis car would be great even if it cost more than it does. Driving it feels like you paid way too much, then you get to look at the price and congratulate yourself.

The best buy in its class - 2002 Hyundai Elantra
By Rick Jones - March 31 - 10:00 amThe Elantra is HUGELY underpriced. Dollar for dollar, its better than the Civic, Corolla, or Focus. Its a big improvement on previous Hyundais... quiet, responsive, and comfortable with more than enough power. Options galore, looks good, well built. A great buy. I didnt intend to buy Hyundai when I went shopping, but it beat out every other compact car, and I looked at all of them.
