This Year's Model Updates:

The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, antilock brakes available only as a package option.

  • A great buy, few problems - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

The 2004 Elantra is definitely something i will be keeping around for awhile. Some people might say that Hyundai does not make reliable cars, I dont know about Hyundais past but i assure you that this sedan is nothing but reliable. I had purchased the car with only 18,000 miles on it and now it has over 50,000 in just one year. I still have not run into a single mechanical problem nor any interior problem. I had to replace the brakes but those are wearing parts. I drive both highway and city getting a 28mpg. It is most definitely not at its best when in snow though, it is actually not a snow friendly car at all. Ill just take it easy in snow and keep driving fun, good on gas, reliable car

  • Great overall, lousy in snow - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

This is my 2nd Elantra, first being a 99 wagon pleased with both, but one consistent problem: both are horrendous in snow. I think the tires are just too wide, and they float. Ive driven in snow all my life - Italian sports cars to trucks these are the first cars Ive ever been seriously uncomfortable in. Snows all around help, but narrower rubber would be the best. Overall, great car, 5- spd gets 34 mpg consistently - on my 8 mile commute and highway (at 80 mph last time). Just replaced rotors all around - I dont normally go through brakes, but..??? Would recommend to anyone - great package for the price!!

  • Cheap car/ Poor quality/Bad Service - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

My current milage is only 10,000, but when I stopped by Hyundai repair center to fix my brake sound and steering wheel vibrating, they chrged me about $600, which is out of warranty. Its very funny. Ill never buy Hyundai any more and dont recommend anybody. Please dont buy Hyundai.

  • Great car for the money - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

in the test drive i noticed that the Throttle responce was lacking i asked the sale men what could i do to improve that and he recommend a K&N air filter i did just that i put on a COLD air INtake and this car Just FLYs now. im not a young Hoodlem either. (Im 25) but honestly this car needs some improvements and the money you save on the car deserves some money spent on it.. my suggestions - Tiburon V6 sway bar - Cold air intake - better tyres - new stereo - Synthectic OIL (moble 1) - Grounding Kit - Platnum Bosch +4 Plugs

  • great little car - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I fell in love with it immediately. I live in a hilly area and gas mileage is 28 mpg combined. Elantra has plenty of power for highway driving. It also handles well in snow. It has 52K miles on it and has never needed a repair. This car is an excellent buy for the money!

  • Great Value, Great Car, Low Price! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

The market perception that Hyundai still makes lousy cars works to the buyers advantage. If you put a Honda or Toyota badge on the Hyundai Elantra GT it would sell for $20K and be worth every penny. How Hyundai can sell this car for under $15K is beyond me but I am not complaining. The Elantra is quick, comfy, handles well and gets pretty decent gas mileage. The ride is smooth and quiet. It has lots of features and a great radio too! One sweet little car!

i have a lot of problems with the stering wheel, shakeing at avarege 65mph. I need to replace twice the front rotors, tape side doors and right side wheel bearing. The air vents make a lot of noise at 75mph and i had to replace left side view mirror and so on. I will never buy a hyundai again.

  • Unbelievable car! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

Great car for 25000, nevermind the 17000 sticker price

  • Everything I wanted - 2004 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I purchased this car because I regularly travel on two lane roads for two to three hours at a stretch. I wanted something that gave a comfortable ride, had good pull up hills, and got 30+ miles to the gallon. My Elantra gave me all of that. We are now looking at the 2008 Elantra for a family car.

  • Cheap and best car - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

I am very happy with Hyundais simplistic design with comforts that are small. Ex: See the side trays in which you can use it as cup holders. Better power in the compact range. Best warranty. Good Hyundai customer care, at least initially. They called and enquired about the car and its performance. Overall satisfied.
