This Year's Model Updates:

Leather-equipped EX models get heated seats and side mirrors as standard equipment. Honda has improved the navigation system this year with a larger database, and all models have improved walk-in accessibility to the third-row seat. All Hondas have a seatbelt reminder system added for 2004.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, feels big behind the wheel.

  • Pilot Perfect - 2004 Honda Pilot

We are surprised at the Pilots rear (third row) seating capacity. Honda redesigned the center row (2nd row) seats so that they are able to move forward and backward (that is they are no longer stationary). This enables third row passengers to have as much room as second row passengers. Overall, we love the Pilot. We also have a Honda Odyssey, but my wife enjoys the Pilot even more. She like the better handling, and stiffer ride that the Pilot provides. The back row of seats are very easy to configure. We cant wait to get our second pilot.

I love this car, it is reliable, drives quiet and smooth. I traded in a BMW X5 which handled alittle better, but drove harder and was noisier. The navigation system could use some simplification, but overall for the price this SUV is a best buy.

  • A garage salers DREAM VEHICLE! - 2004 Honda Pilot

Weve driven this 5,000 miles so far, and are very pleased with the Pilot. The only problems so far are the uncomfortable headrests, and the fact that the seats dont recline fully as they do in a Dodge Caravan. We bought Honda for its name, though, because weve had good luck with them in the past - our 1991 Honda Accord has 250,000 miles on it and is still going strong!

  • No Repairs Yet! - 2004 Honda Pilot

I bought this car new. It has NEVER had a problem ( besides battery and brakes) I have 80,000 miles. I was hit by a Taurus, I got out of the Honda and could not see a dent, finally I saw it, only $900 to repair (Taurus totalled) These are great cars, mileage could be better, wind noise bad, great product.

  • Almost Great - 2004 Honda Pilot

I really like the overall practicality of this vehicle. Its roomy and not bad if you have to carry passengers in the 3rd row. For short trips at least. The only beef I have is the quality of the interior materials in certain places. Things like the air vents, climate control knobs are made from some of the flimsiest plastic Ive ever seen in a car. I expect more from Honda.

  • Not as satisfied as others - 2004 Honda Pilot

Very uncomfortable seats. Headrest that neither adjust nor fit properly. Dangerous position of parking-break pedal in reference to the left leg. Inconvenient A/C vents (do not adjust enough). Burns too much gas (average about 15 mpg).

  • Wins over the Highlander hands down. - 2004 Honda Pilot
    By -

My wife and I purchased the Pilot after testing several other SUVs. We were expecting twin infants and my wife did not want to be a typical "soccer mom" with a minivan. We narrowed our choices to the Toyota Highlander and the Pilot. We test drove the Toyota and came to the conclusion that it was a capable SUV but lacking in some departments. The most obvious differences being that it lacked 3rd row seating and that it had to be optioned out in order to have the same conveniences that came standard with the Pilot. The price was also instrumental in the Pilot winning us over. Comparibly equipped, the Pilot was about $2000 less.

  • THE PILOT WON - 2004 Honda Pilot

WE COMPARED 8 SUVS IN THIS PRICE RANGE WITH AN EMPHASIS ON FOREIGN MADE. WE WERE GETTING RID OF A 99 TAHOE WHICH WAS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT. WE CHOSE THE PILOT AND WHAT A GREAT DECISION. WE LOVE IT. HIGH QUALITY, A DREAM TO DRIVE, GOOD MILEAGE, AND ITS A HONDA! WE LOVE IT.
