Overview & Reviews
Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.
Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Not as satisfied as others - 2004 Honda Pilot
By georgette - December 3 - 2:00 amVery uncomfortable seats. Headrest that neither adjust nor fit properly. Dangerous position of parking-break pedal in reference to the left leg. Inconvenient A/C vents (do not adjust enough). Burns too much gas (average about 15 mpg).

Wins over the Highlander hands down. - 2004 Honda Pilot
By Raj 1471 - December 3 - 2:00 amMy wife and I purchased the Pilot after testing several other SUVs. We were expecting twin infants and my wife did not want to be a typical "soccer mom" with a minivan. We narrowed our choices to the Toyota Highlander and the Pilot. We test drove the Toyota and came to the conclusion that it was a capable SUV but lacking in some departments. The most obvious differences being that it lacked 3rd row seating and that it had to be optioned out in order to have the same conveniences that came standard with the Pilot. The price was also instrumental in the Pilot winning us over. Comparibly equipped, the Pilot was about $2000 less.

Really well built - 2003 Honda Pilot
By schrist2000 - December 1 - 10:00 amThis is a vehicle that you can tell was really researched for a long time. THey took the best of most SUV and cars and put them into one vehicle. You have the ride and feel of a car, and the room more thatn any other SUV in its class. Lots of storage places as well as extra outlets for almost any growing family.

Great Family SUV - 2004 Honda Pilot
By kzak - November 29 - 10:00 amIve had my eye on these since it was introduced in 03. It was an easy decision to replace our domestic minivan with the 04 Pilot. It has easier 3rd row seat access than the Explorer and gets better gas mileage. The ride is very good, Interior is roomy and comfy, and the DVD System is wonderful. All in all its a great vehicle from a very reliable manufacturer.

I wish it had been a four or five star car - 2017 Honda Pilot
By M - November 29 - 6:04 amIf quick response acceleration at high-speed is not important to you, then disregard this review. I test drove the new 2017 Honda Pilot Elite hoping that I could write a check on the spot for the vehicle. I wanted to love it. I feel like the design engineers failed me. The vehicle is far behind the curve on technology which is very disappointing. The Elite model should come with all of the most modern bells and whistles. It should nearly drive itself. Regardless… That is not what I was looking for. I was looking for safety in the form of acceleration… The ability to get out of trouble very quickly on the freeway. As I was test driving the vehicle, I told the sales person sitting in the front passenger seat that the next test was going to make or break the deal. I told him to count the number of seconds from the time that I said "now" until he felt the G forces of acceleration pushing him into the seat. I told him anything over 0.5 seconds would be a failure. On the first test, it took three seconds for acceleration to kick in. We perform the test three more times, and at no time, did it take less than 2.5 seconds for acceleration to check in. That is not enough time to get out of a bad situation. After we return, the sales person brought his chief mechanic to talk to me. The mechanic told me that I could have a third-party reprogram the transmission to give me what I wanted in acceleration, but it would void the warranty. Im not going to spend close to $50,000 just to have my warranty voided to bring the car up to where it should already be. Because of this, I am giving the 2017 Honda Pilot a two star rating.
