Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

I finally traded in my Van for this SUV. So far, I like it better then my Van. one problem I noticed, it seems to pull to the right. Looks like others are having this same problem. I brought it to dealer, they said, they are not seeing the problem. They said it is normal that it pulls if I accelerate. I think that is junk! My brother CRV is not doing that. For that reason, I lower its quality to 7.

  • No Repairs Yet! - 2004 Honda Pilot

I bought this car new. It has NEVER had a problem ( besides battery and brakes) I have 80,000 miles. I was hit by a Taurus, I got out of the Honda and could not see a dent, finally I saw it, only $900 to repair (Taurus totalled) These are great cars, mileage could be better, wind noise bad, great product.

Have had my Honda Pilot now for 2 years, just passed 50k miles! Still an outstanding value, even if the mileage (urban 18mpg Highway 21mpg) is not best. Great value, low maintenance, high utility for a mid-sized SUV and does extremely well in mid-atlantic winter ice/slush. Better than my previous Ford SUVs (Explorer, Bronco) and Mustang! Pilots rock! 3rd-seat roomy enough for 6 (not 8) adults or 2 large dogs! EX model AWD Pilot is a great total value SUV!

I really like the overall practicality of this vehicle. Its roomy and not bad if you have to carry passengers in the 3rd row. For short trips at least. The only beef I have is the quality of the interior materials in certain places. Things like the air vents, climate control knobs are made from some of the flimsiest plastic Ive ever seen in a car. I expect more from Honda.

  • Love the 3rd-gen Pilot - 2016 Honda Pilot

Preface: Weve put about 1000 miles on our Pilot so far. We intend to pull our high-wall pop-up camper with our EX-L AWD and have equipped it to handle the 3700 GVWR of the camper. I will edit this review (or add another) once weve had a chance to test-out towing performance. Everything about this mid-size SUV is awesome. Performance, handling, utility, function, comfort ... all hit high marks with us. The Pilot is primarily my wifes vehicle and previously she drove a 2nd-gen Honda CRV. We had looked at the 2nd-gen Pilots and she felt like she was driving a truck (which I liked of course). While it is still certainly a bigger (looking and feeling) vehicle than the CRV, the 3rd-gen Pilot does drive much "smaller" than the previous generations of the Pilot. I will admit that the steering was a little different at first. The feedback is so soft, that I initially believed that the head must be drive-by-wire; however, a quick glance under the dash and there is most definitely a steering shaft from the head down through the firewall. This doesnt make the Pilot difficult to drive or respond to steering adjustments; however, I would prefer just a little more feedback in the system. As we drive it more and more, this becomes much less noticeable (and perhaps break-in is delivering more and more feedback in the system...IDK.) Performance is awesome and loaded-up with 7 has had no problems passing on any roadway. I "accidentally" found out that 100 mph is quickly achieved when passing a very slow group of 3 cars on a remote 2-lane highway. Acceleration from 45 -to- "oops 98" was quite surprising when I made that pass. As mentioned earlier, I am intrigued to see how it pulls our camper. Previously we had been pulling it with a full-size, half-ton truck (V8) and I am expecting our trips will be a little slower and cumbersome. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised (this 3.5 V6 does have almost as much torque as my truck did.) Overall, I would highly recommend the 3rd-gen Pilot. Im no car snob (unless were talking about old muscle cars), but this is the finest vehicle Ive ever owned. I am admittedly partial to Hondas as I have been riding, driving, or pushing (mowers) them for four decades now.

I purchased my Honda from Tustin DCH Acura. I have had my vehicle for one month but only had the pleasure of driving it for two and a half weeks because this dealership had my vehicle for over 10 days after purchasing it for repairs. They are not very good at returning calls and still arent. They are very nice people but they dont return calls especially after you purchase. When I was trying to purchase the truck they return every call but after I gave them my $19,500 cashiers check I cant get them to return my calls without going through management. I will update my review if I can after driving for a while to tell if gas mileage is good and other things about the vehicle. EDMUNDS IS AWESOME, VERY HELPFUL AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. THANK YOU SYDNEY WIGGLESWORTH AND LARRY PATTERSON. YOU TWO WERE VERY HELFUL, NICE, POLITE, AND RETUENED MY CALLS/EMAILS. I WILL USE EDMUNDS AGAIN. AND HAVE TOLD MANY ABOUT YOU. THANK YOU. R. BABERS

This is a real wonderful SUV, very comfortable for 5 people, the rear additional bench its just for kids. Fuel economy is very good and after 15 months I really didnt went to any kind of repair, except oil and filter. Highly recommended.

I have had my Pilot since June 8 2002 the week it was officially released. I Have only had to bring it in for the 2 major recalls . Other than that i have only had some very minor nits. i.e. the driver side windshield washer nozzle sometimes leaks without using them. I have driven my car in Death Valley and on the dirt roads around Southern California. Works great to me. One thing though is I take my Pilot to Acura for the major services since Honda dealers around here seem to nickel and dime you for certain things that are supposed to be done. Acura does everything for one price with no extras.... Eric the Desert Rat

The Honda Pilot, as delivered, suffers from such bland styling that one of the men at my regular tire dealer doesnt ever remember seeing one! It is a very competent vehicle, and the third row seating is what made it the vehicle of choice for the principal driver, my wife. We have 4 young grandchildren. We added the factory chrome trim on the bumpers, 18" chrome wheels, and the custom Honda front grill/bumber module. It looks much better, and we get a lot of looks, especially from other Pilot drivers. We think they believe it is a "Special Limited Edition" model, or an unavailable "test model".
