  • First Honda - 2009 Honda Pilot

This is the first Honda I have owned. I have a wife, soon will have 3 kids, a dog, and a boat that we need to pull. Looked at everything that seated more than 5 people, had decent fuel economy, and could pull a reasonable sized boat. Honda was last on my list to look at but when we did we ended up buying it. So far we really like it. We get about 17 mpg city and as much as 21 mpg on the highway. Lots of room in the inside, good storage, comfortable. We are impressed. The closest competitor would be a Toyota Highlander and it doesnt hold a candle to the Pilot.

  • Excessive Road Noise - 2009 Honda Pilot

I really like the 09 Pilot with the exception of the excessive road/tire noise at highway speeds. A vehicle in this price range should be reasonably quiet - this vehicle is not! The noise has become a real issue with my wife and me to the point that we may have to get rid of the vehicle, which is too bad, as I think it would be a great car it not for the noise

My family & I are really enjoying our Pilot. Its much better than my 06 Frontier crewcab! Its true that the interior materials are not as upscale as other Honda vehicles (compared to my wifes 07 CR-V or a new Accord), but its not offensive at all & I like it just fine. Braking has been great for me in real-world conditions. Power has never been a problem; I pass & merge with ease. Sprung for the DVD & our daughter loves it. Seats are very comfortable. Cylinder shutoff is noticeable & takes some getting used to. Road noise is minimal. Wonderful little details included in the design, such as the grocery hooks, cargo net, hill assist. Sound system is clear/crisp, but not as good as expected.

  • Solid citizen - 2009 Honda Pilot

Had the 2009 Pilot EX AWD for a month now. We looked at this and the Toyota Highlander after having a Mercedes ML320 for 10 years. This car is very roomy. The seating arrangements are very flexible for the 2nd & 3rd rows. Engine is very quiet and smooth but there is some road noise. The EX does not have leather seats but the fabric is VERY nice. Hard to describe but kind of a hi-tech feel. The seats are very comfortable with plenty of adjustments. At first I thought the front interior looked kind of plasticy (if thats a word) but its because theres so much room in front. It really looks fine and the fit and finish is very solid. Gas mileage is only 14.5 in city driving so far.

  • Satisfied Buyer - 2009 Honda Pilot

After looking at and test driving the Acadia, Outlook, Edge, CX-9, and Pathfinder, I was pleasantly surprised by the redesigned 2009 Pilot. The GM products were "cheap" looking on the inside, and the driving experience was average. The others lost out to either styling, or functionality. A family of four, two large dogs, and all the gear to go away for the weekend fit comfortably in the Pilot. All of the features are easy to operate, and convenient. I honestly could not be more pleased with the vehicle and enjoy driving it. I also found it to be priced significantly lower then its similarly equipped competitors.

  • Poor built quality - 2009 Honda Pilot

Maybe because this is the first year for this updated model, but I noticed a lot of small fit and finish problems. Didnt expect this from Honda.

I have 57000 miles on the exl pilot. This SUV is the smoothest running vehicle Ive ever owned.I use it as a work car mostly. It has 4wheel drive.I really wish we would get a lot of snow so I can see how well this works. The amount of snow in central Ohio is very limited.I bought the extended warranty at the dealer and wouldnt do it again.I replaced the battery and replaced the heating element in both front seats.I paid $1300 for extended warranty and have not broke even yet.I have heard these pilots can easily reach 200,000 miles. If you dont drive a lot of miles I wouldnt purchase it.The pilot has the 3 set of airbags on driver and passenger side.It will seat 8 and both seats in back will fold flat on the floor.I would buy this vehicle again. No remorse.

  • Worth the wait - 2009 Honda Pilot

My wife and I were waiting for a this 2009 version to come out since we saw the concepts. My wife has the 03 CRV and that has been a workhorse and we love it. We are hoping that this Pilot will do the same for us. We are enjoying it so far. We had a snow storm and it drove like a tank as it plowed through ice and snow. We were looking at the 4runner and we found that the Pilot drove much better - the drive feels more comfortable, yet firm and responsive to drive, it also feels much more powerful - even with the V8 version of the 4runner. Finally you get more for your money with the Pilot.

  • Pilot - A Cut Above - 2009 Honda Pilot
    By -

Relative to other vehicles we test drove, we simply found the Pilot a cut above anything else out there for the money we had budgeted. This vehicle replaces a 2002 CRV, so its obvious an upgrade. Feature-wise, were quiet happy with it. We looked seriously at Saturn Outlook, 2006 Pilot, and Toyota Highlander. Outlook, from a drivers view, just didnt feel right. Highlander felt pretty decent, but didnt care for fit for passengers in 3rd row. 2006 Pilot felt great from a driving standpoint, but felt like it had less leg room in 2nd row than our CRV. After two test drives on the 09 Pilot and there was little doubt. This was a smart pick.

  • Not as fun but better then 06 MDX - 2009 Honda Pilot
    By -

I went from an 06 MDX touring with Nav, RES and running boards. Priced the same vehicle for another 3 year lease and would have to take an additional $100/month out of my pocket for 39 months. Once I test drove the Pilot, I fell in love. I will say that it is not nearly as fun to drive but functionality and space overcome the need for speed. Comfort matches if not beats the 09 MDX I tested. I also tested the GM equivalents including the overpriced fully-loaded Enclave. For a family of 5, and for about $200/month less than the MDX I recommend the Pilot Touring.
