This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • 05 Pilot EX-L Review - 2005 Honda Pilot

Im very satisfied with my purchase. I looked very closely at the 05 Nissan Pathfinder and 05 Toyota 4-Runner, and decided on the Honda. This is my 4th Honda that I have owned, and Ive never been dissappointed with one of them. If you are looking for class with a nice amount of performance this is a perfect choice. The nice feature about this car is that it comes with AWD and a standard 3rd row seat that is easy to get in and out of. The 3rd row in the Pathfinder is difficult to get out of and to find a 4-Runner with a 3rd row is impossible and its an extra charge. I am very dissapointed however with the poor sound from the stereo system.

Honda quality throughout. Tons of room. All three rows have plenty of space. I was amazed at the ride - I expected it to ride like a truck, but the smoothness and quiet are better than my old Lincoln Towncar. Acceleration is excellent. Extremely solid, safe feel. All the bells and whistles of a luxury car. Outlets are everywhere, pockets and nooks and crannies for storage all around you. Center console is so huge, I can fit TWO gallons of milk. A remarkable vehicle. Gas mileage is poor: I get 15mpg city.

The Pilot performs as expected for a safe, sensible suv. Towing package, power passenger seat, fog lights, and auto dimming rearview mirror should be standard for a car at this price. The cd changer should be integrated into the main radio to save space. Navigation AND RES should BOTH be available options on the SAME vehicle. I guess Honda needed to differentiate the Pilot from the Acura MDX to justify the $6 - 10K premium.

I bought a Sage EX-L. It has been a great vehicle. Road and engine noise is minimal. The new standard CD changer and glass power moonroof makes it even better. It is like an MDX for less and it runs on regular unleaded. I would definitely recommend it!

Look at most SUVs and Vans. Found the Pilot to be Elegant, Powerful, Responsive and great fun to drive. Im still trying to let my wife drive it.

  • Hard to beat the Pilot - 2005 Honda Pilot

My fifth Honda: one Civic, two Accords and an MDX. Our Pilot is one week old today. Looked at the Pilot for my wife because I love my 01 MDX. The build of this vehicle is amazing. It feels, sounds and rides like my MDX. I don’t know how people get mileage down in the low teens I get 16-17 around the city and 21-23 on the highway in my MDX and the first tank in my Pilot was 16.5/ city driving. Those drivers must have a “lead foot”. FYI: Your TMV is too high. Pilots can be had at invoice at a number of Baltimore/Washington area dealers. I am sure the dealers hate hearing me say that.

  • Love the Pilot, but - 2005 Honda Pilot

I drive considerable miles (10,000 in 3 months) and love to drive it and the family loves it. Fun ride. I did expect more "quality build" from Honda (and any car I pay almost $30K for) based on reputation. This replaced a 2000 Expedition which was fine just too bulky. I have faced wind noise from improper closing of windows (fixed by dealer with smiles on face) and sunroof doesnt seal properly from vent to close (still need to see dealer again!). Rattles from stereo. Front seatbelts mar the plastic when released. Doesnt happen with passenger ones. Excellent power and fun to drive vehicle! Once ticky-tack rattles are fixed, it is a 10!

What a great vehicle!! We have had our pilot for 3 years now. I dont have anything bad thing to say about it. It is very roomy and it drives nice! Nice family car, especially if you dont want to break down and get a minivan just yet.

  • Well Thought-out SUV - 2005 Honda Pilot

Extremely Well Thought-Out .. Console area is great with cell phone tucked away along with power outlets .. convenient drink holders, etc. Cd changer easy to use and functions great .. good sound on system. Power is super and engine and transmission is as smooth as silk. I tested the Volvo XC90 (loved it but too pricey), the Highlander .. nice ride but not nearly as well thought-out interior. The Pilot had by far the most functional third row seats. I do wish there was a compass and trip computer, but I do like the temperature gauge. Also I would like an option on tire/wheel size, however the tires it comes with are more than adequate.

  • Fun and reliable - 2005 Honda Pilot

Weve had this car for 4 months and I love to drive it. Its powerful for a V6 and feels safe in all weather. The car has not slipped in rain, sleet or snow, and handling is good for a large car. Interior room is spacious and flexible, and you can easily fit 8 people or put down the 2nd and 3rd rows and haul lots of cargo. Interior trim and accessories are sturdy, and the car handles easy a heavy payload. The console between the 2 front seats is great for odds and ends, and can be adjusted to suit your taste. Small gripes are that it handles wind noise well, but road noise on bad roads is pronounced, and the heat in the front seats fades in and out.
