Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • I want to be in CONTROL - not it!!!!! - 2017 Honda Pilot

I know I should love this car and I know old ladies shouldnt swear. But, I freaking hate this car and wish I had bought an older model, which is sad because I havent bought a new car in 13 years! 1)Auto Stop - if you are stopped for a tiny amount of time, the engine will shut off and restart when you move the steering wheel or take your foot off the brake. IT IS UNNERVING!! When I bought the car, the dealer said you can turn that irritation off but he meant you have to turn it off every time you start the car. 2)The freaking BEEPING - you can turn the incessant beeping off and risk backing into a brick wall if youre not used to the camera, or you can leave it on and have it annoy the living @!#%& out of you - when youre backing out of an underground spot with nothing for 2-3 in any direction, when youre rounding a tight turn on your daily trip home (??????), or when it thinks youre too close to a car in front of you - Im not yet dead, Im not blind, if Im that close to a car in front of me its because I WANT TO BE!! 3)The incredibly stupid feature that unlocks all the windows - my boyfriend says its unlocking the doors, then holding the unlock button down. However, it happened to me when I LOCKED the car and not sure what got pressed as the key jostled in my purse. In any case, who EVER wants all their windows opened unless theyre IN THE CAR? I live in Seattle - rain, rain and more rain, twice now in my car completely accidentally. In summary of the features, TOO $%^&& MUCH! When I want a driverless car, Ill get one, til then LET ME DRIVE THE CAR!!!!! And finally, I dont know if its suspension or what, but going over speed bumps or into a big profile driveway (dozens of times a day for most people), is detrimental to your spine.

  • Big, fun SUV with hard seats - 2004 Honda Pilot

Im six feet, six inches tall, and some of the midsize SUVs dont offer enough headroom. Enter the Pilot! Ive got multiple inches to spare above my head, and plenty of legroom and shoulder room, too (the Highlander I test-drove afterwards felt small and cramped). Visibility is excellent. Performance is surprisingly good, and build quality is the best Ive ever seen. The only downsides are (1) The EPA mileage rating was optimistic -- no big surprise, and (2) The leather seats are definitely not soft and cushy like a luxury cars. You sit *on* them, not *in* them. My 240 pounds dont even dent the seat cushions.

the radio in my pilot is terrible. We took for a test drive and noticed the quality of the sound was bad. It kept cutting out and fading in and out. The salesperson said it would be no problem getting the problem resolved.....that was over a month ago. Still waiting....still calling....still getting no answers.

  • Great Purchase - 2003 Honda Pilot

I love the Honda Pilot. It is very easy to reconfigure the seats up and down depending on how many you need seating for, or how much cargo you need to load. The center console holds a lot of stuff. I was worried about children being able to get in and out as easily as a mini van, but Ive had no problems. The seats flip up easily for access to the third row. The Rear Entertainment Center is wonderful. The children love to have DVDs on trips and it is so nice to be able to listen to different music in the front while they use headphones. The Pilot drives very nicely. Ive driven on interstates and in town and have no complaints.

  • The Best - Its a Honda - 2003 Honda Pilot

We traded in our 2001 Honda Odyssey, which was perfect in every way, for the Pilot. The quality on this vehicle exceeds that of any vehicle weve owned. Power feels like much more than its rated 240hp, probably from the very efficient 5 spd that never has to hunt for the right gear. Gas mileage has been better than the Odysseys. Comfort is supurb; on a recent 6 hour road trip, I didnt even need a break, and its dead silent at 80mph + on the highway. Theres a ton of space in this thing, enough for 2 car seats and an adult to sit comfortably in the 2nd row seat.

  • Does just about everything well - 2003 Honda Pilot

There is no other crossover vehicle out there right now that has the best combination of features, reliability and price. Not a head-turner, but will be attractive and fresh 10 years from now. I spent 2 years looking and just could not find a more balance vehicle!

  • The Pilot - 2003 Honda Pilot

This is a fantastic SUV. I have had it for nearly a year now and Ive had no problems whatsoever with my Pilot. The ride is supple, the interior fit and finish is top notch, the handling is wonderful. Im very pleased with my purchase. If youre in the market for an SUV, the Pilot wins hands down over the Highlander!

  • Love at first drive - 2003 Honda Pilot

Smooth shifting. Plenty of interior space. All controls at fingertip from steering wheel. Best priced SUV as compared to others with similar features. And cant beat Hondas reliability.
