This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • Smooth and Powerful - 2005 Honda Pilot

This vehicle is an incredible value. We test drove other vehicles in this $$ class that didnt have the overall balance of power, ride and handling quality of the Pilot. I checked out Fords Explorer and Freestyle, Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder. All were good cars but just couldnt hit that home run I was looking for.

My wife and I love this vehicle. We have taken it snowboarding in Lake Tahoe already and it drives up and through the mountains like a dream, it handles curves solid and rides like a luxury vehicle.

  • Pilot won out over MDX and RX330 - 2005 Honda Pilot

Got a 2005 Pilot EX-L with every available option which will be installed in the next week including chrome side step runners, fog lights, mud guards, rear view camera, navigation, anti-theft upgrade, etc. All I can say is WOW! My wife and I have done two weeks of research and test drove the Lexus RX330 and Acura MDX and never imagined we would be buying a Pilot. Fully loaded was less out the door then either RX/MDX. This SUV gets up and goes fast and rides smooth! For all the safety features, accessories, incredibly smart interior layout and USABLE third row, why pay more for less? Pilot is a no brainer after driving and comparing to Rx/MDX (actually more comfortable). We are elated.

  • A smart choice - 2005 Honda Pilot

A perfect SUV! Reasonably styled, exceptionally built. Very smooth and powerful engine, good pickup, smartly placed controls, comfortable interiors (I have Pilot EX-Navi). Versatile SUV with good fuel economy for an SUV. The only maintenance has been routine checkups. Wish side airbags, moonroof were available. Size is a plus... large interior and cargo room, but looks/drives like a midsize. Paid close to invoice price.

  • Just purchased - 2005 Honda Pilot

We were actually looking to buy a compact SUV like the Subaru Forester, Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4 but when we actually thought about it, we decided they were too small for our needs. It ended up as a choice between the Pilot and a Toyota Highlander. The Pilot was just better designed and better built. The Toyota salespeople ignored us so that didnt help them. This vehicle is fun to drive. Love the heated leather seats, 6 CD changer, DVD player, sunroof. Drive is a little sloppy on cornering but nothing that I cant get over. I am a safety girl and love the 5 star crash rating. Gasmilage could be better. Like the interior better than the exterior but the exterior is not offensive, just plain.

  • Jerky ride - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Just purchased my Honda and the one problem that is major for me besides not getting the gas mileage it shows on its sticker, is how jerky it is when the motor/engine shifts gears up & down. Feels like you are driving it incorrectly. Was told all SUVs shift like that but I had owned one from another make prior to the Pilot and it was not that way.

  • Love our Pilot! - 2005 Honda Pilot

We took our new Pilot for a weekend trip, and it was so nice to have. The ride is smooth and there was plenty of seating and storage. Passengers can easily get in and out of the Pilot, and it sat 7 adults comfortably. The middle console easily held our portable DVD player since we didnt purchase the Entertainment package, and it has plenty of outlets. This is the nicest vehicle we have ever owned.

A fun and great vehicle to drive, I tow my boat about 2500 lbs, easily and handles very well. Great vehicle and entirely satisfied.

The 2003 Pilot was purchased in 08/02. I have 159,000 miles on it. Purchased "EX" (Top trim level.) The 7 speaker stereo is very marginal. Replaced tranny at 60K miles under warranty. On the plus side, very good front seat leg room. Handling is very good. 2 factory trim options are purchased as packages, either LX or EX. Individual options are purchased through Honda Parts dept. Honda has a strange pricing policy. Chrome bumper garnish sells for over $500. (4 peices of plastic) Fog lights sell for over $400. Cargo cover is $120. Dispite the above, I would purchase another one.

  • Some things never given a second thought - 2005 Honda Pilot

I only have vehicle a few weeks but was able to test it in heavy rains, ice and snow. I have been driving 4 wheel drive vehicles for the past 15 years, and this vehicle rates right at the top. Ive tested the rest of the competition in this category and found this vehicle to win hands down in the most important areas to me. It has excellent pick up, great handling in all conditions, and a solid comfortable ride. etc.,etc.,etc.
