Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

My car is amazing! I LOVE it SO much...its like my best friend! If you view consumer reports, do NOT listen to anything they say about the new 9 speed auto-it shifts so smoothly and the buttons are anything but unintuitive. 5 Stars for sure.

I just traded in my 2002 Odyssey for the Pilot. I was very hesitant with having three kids and needing room to grow. The ride is so smooth and the seats are so comfortable. This suv has great power and "pickup". My kids love the storage and comfort as well. I dont regret my decision at all. After going through four other Hondas, this is definitely the best!

Our Pilot was delivered with a deffective engine and after disputing our request for a replacement vehicle, Honda and the dealer provided us with an entirley new sample some 5 weeks later. Despite this poor start, we are impressed and extremely satisfied with the Pilot. With a family of six, the seating for 8 was a major plus on purchase. What impresses most after 11,000 miles is the comfort and spacious feel together with the responsive drive experience. Only con is serious off road use, dont plan to go there. Awaiting still an assessment of winter performance in the Sierras.

  • Do Not Buy This Car!!!!! - 2016 Honda Pilot

I have only owned 5 cars in my life and I am now 50 Years old. My first car was a Honda Prelude, then a Honda Station Wagon, and two Honda mini Vans to follow. The 2016 Pilot is my 5th car. I am a Honda advocate and normally one of their biggest supporters but the new Pilot has disappointed me immensely and the dealerships ability to help as well. I have now owned the car for 6 months and have been plagued with issues that no one can solve from day one. The first issue is the radio. Regardless of whether I am listening to XM or local radio, periodically a crackling sound will occur and the only thing that will make it go away is turning the car off and then restarting it. This however does not always work. I have even driven the car to the dealership (making me very late to work) to prove to the dealership that this irritating crackling noise does exist. The technicians listened to the noise and tried to determine the source but were unable to give me a definitive answer/solution. I have since been back three times and still no results. I now have the pleasure of listening to music with a loud crackling noise in the background. The second and more serious issue is the acceleration problem. This to me is extremely dangerous and an issue Honda needs to address ASAP, as other owners have also mentioned this problem. it doesnt matter if the car is in the ECO mode or regular mode, when you are at a stop sign or light and go to accelerate there is a distinct delay and abrupt jarring that follows. It is very dangerous because you assume when trying to pull out into a busy intersection that your car will move quickly to avoid getting hit. This however is not the case because your acceleration is delayed and frequently panic ensues because you worry if you can get out of the way in time. Again, I have brought the car into the dealership three times and they tell me the computers have been reprogrammed. The issue has not improved or been corrected. I have now been told to go back to American Honda Motor Company to see what can be done. I am now in the process of seeing what my options are because I do not feel safe driving a car that does not accelerate properly. The third issue is the same as another writer who wrote a review about the Auto Idle Stop is also a problem and will only work sporadically. If you think Im the only one you better go on line and research the acceleration problems and Hondas denial that they have a problem. Getting ready for battle and hope you dont make the same mistake I made. Its a shame that after 35 years of being a loyal customer they have lost my business.

  • Hondas are your Best Value - 2007 Honda Pilot

I only just picked up my Pilot 4 days ago (2007)and I am thrilled with it! I test drove the Highlander and even though the outside is attractive, the comfort of driving one even for a test drive just didnt cut it for me. I wanted more from my vehicle for the price range. I went with the Pilot since it was over $8,000 cheaper. I know I made the right decision after bringing home the Pilot and driving it.

  • Great SUV, but questionable gas mileage. - 2009 Honda Pilot

For the most part this vehicle is awesome. Some people have had an issue with the exterior, but I have had nothing but compliments on its looks. Its one tough truck for sure. The handling is excellent. Although, it took some getting used to the transmission that slows you down when you take your foot off the accelerator. The turning radius is unbelievable. The only thing troubling me right now is the gas mileage. I went from a 4-runner with a V8 to the Pilot thinking I would get better mpg with a 6cyl. So far thats not the case. I primarily drive in stop and go traffic. I am only getting about 13 mpg. I do run the A/C constantly, so that may have something to do with it. Otherwise, I love it.

  • Transmission Problems immediately and terrible A/C - 2016 Honda Pilot

My 2016 Honda Pilot has 2600 miles on it and it feels and sounds like it is about to break down. The gears jerk when traveling around town, and a loud grinding noise occurs during acceleration along with jerking. I live in Florida, and my last vehicle was the Honda Oddysey that had poor A/C, and this new Honda Pilot is even worse. I prefer an A/C setting at home of 76 and my Pilot cant seem to get that low in my car when the outside temp is above the mid to high 80s. I have owned the car for 6 weeks, and I am not happy. I dont recommend this vehicle unless you are a mechanic who lives in a fairly cold climate.

  • Honda Let Me Down - 2003 Honda Pilot

Initially the Pilot appeared to be a great car. However, throughout this past year it has lost its luster. The overall poor quality of the interior design became apparent. The heating system is slow in the dead of winter and cracking the windows in the summer will blow your ear drums out. There are problems with the seatbelts retracting properly – driver seatbelt buckle beats up interior plastic while rear seatbelts become curled and won’t retract. The chrome finish on parts of interior scratched easily and has worn off excessively only after one year of low use. In short, if you want a quality SUV, don’t buy a Pilot – it’s not worth the money.

  • Got a steal of a deal - 2003 Honda Pilot
    By -

Similar to the Acura MDX which I drove before the Pilot came out. The Pilot is a very easy to drive SUV with just some small nit picks about it. Got mine for STICKER with no premium on it. I picked my Red one on Saturday June 8th and then drove it 272 miles back home. All the local dealers are putting a 4000-8000 premium on the cars out here.
