Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • 2010 Pilot - 2010 Honda Pilot

Just took delivery on a 2010 Pilot. I came close to the Acadia which I liked a lot and was turning in a GMC Yukon. I liked the quality of the Pilot better than the Acadia and it was priced lower. I also had reservations about buying a car from a company in bankruptcy. I was amazed to find the interior actually had MORE usable space than my 2006 Yukon. The leather seats are very comfortable and the build quality appears to be up to Hondas reputation. My only issues are the vehicle pulled to the right. I brought it to the dealer to adjust the frontend. I am concerned to hear others have reported the same problem. There is also more road noise when compared to my Yukon.

  • Very Happy With My Pilot - 2004 Honda Pilot

I am very pleased with my Pilot. I looked and reviewed plenty of SUVs. And I ended up very satisfied. For the price it cant be beat. Fuel economy with beat out many of the big boys out there. The rear seat is big and comfortable for adults. Need to go shopping? This is your ride. Long Trip? This is your ride. The only problem that I had was the audio system. But Circuit city took care of that for a few hundred bucks.

  • Good but... - 2003 Honda Pilot

Like it so far. Bought it over Highlander, Seqoia, TrailBlazer. Enjoy the navigation system. The specs say 19.2gallon fuel tank. But it takes 20gallons when the fuel light comes on!! Bit concerned about inaccurate sensor and running out of gas. Tried it a several gas stations with same result. The driver seat moves/rattles on sharp curves.

  • Hondas Rule - 2003 Honda Pilot

The honda pilot is the ultimate real world SUV. The VTM-4 allows 4WD on ice and snow or lowering a boat into the water, in conditions that you would drive less than 20 mph. Not for the rugged off road use or full time 4WD. Safety features rule: 4 total airbags, 5 star crash rated, 4 star rollover rating. Engine runs on regular gas and still will get 22 mpg. Interior rocks but exterior could maybe be made more aesthetically pleasing. Hondas are known for quality and reliability, not really for style though. Third row seat lays down flush and is not even noticed until you need it. Stereo is really nice, EX comes with subwoofer that sounds great.

  • Very sensible cross over SUV - 2006 Honda Pilot

This was a tough decision. Owned Grand Cherokees for a number of years. Tried other brands, either too expensive or using 92 octane over 87 (12% more for 92) when compared to Pilot. Hondas great reputation for quality and many awards for Pilot. Excellent resale value.

  • Go For It - 2003 Honda Pilot

I waited 6 months to buy this vehicle because I just couldnt bring myself to spend that much money. I am so glad that I finally decided to go for it. It is by far the best car I have ever owned.

  • Pilot- WOW - 2003 Honda Pilot

After all the research, etc. Honda was the one and the Pilot was a great choice. Did not want a lot of bells and whistles, and Honda has EX or LX, so pricing and dealing easy. Thanks to Edmunds.com I got the LX $800 over invoice which came to quite a bit off sticker. Guess the LX are dealing better as I was very pleased with deal I received, especially seeing many are paying sticker price.

  • Great SUV for the money - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

Pros: Very quiet, smooth riding, handles good for an SUV, high quality interior, fit and finish, loads of interior room, excellent sound system, lots of safety features, can surf the web and watch Youtube videos. Cons: Hondalink doesnt work more often than not, bluetooth drops out occasionally, Wi-fi doesnt always connect to phone (tethering), gas cap cover doesnt fit correctly, no dual exhaust tips, 9 speed transmission acts hesitatingly at low speeds and when downshifting going downhill. Overall, this car is expensive (Elite model), but you get more for your money than most other SUVs. This SUV is actually fun to drive like most Hondas are. It is very quiet and smooth riding on smooth roads. Rough roads, not so much. It is actually quieter than my Mercedes. No car is perfect but this one comes pretty close. I love this car.

The Pilot performs as expected for a safe, sensible suv. Towing package, power passenger seat, fog lights, and auto dimming rearview mirror should be standard for a car at this price. The cd changer should be integrated into the main radio to save space. Navigation AND RES should BOTH be available options on the SAME vehicle. I guess Honda needed to differentiate the Pilot from the Acura MDX to justify the $6 - 10K premium.
