Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Best vehicle I have ever owned. Plenty of power with good fuel economy. The 4 WD makes me feel safe in rough weather.

I have now owned the Pilot for a month and put 1,000 miles on it. It is the most enjoyable car for town or long distance driving. I tested every 4 wheel drive over a one year period and found this to be the best all round. It was the only vehicle my dog did not puke in, which tells you something about the stable ride. It averages 18.3 miles per gallon overall.

  • Potential Problem - 2003 Honda Pilot

We got this Pilot a month ago and we have a problem with front passenger side struts. Suspension system is same as their Mini van except for it is mounted different on the Pilot. When we went over a bump struts were making a noise. Honda mechanic says the strut might have been mounted wrong. When you test drive go slowly over a bump with air and stereo turned off listen for it.This problem is new and only been found in a few Pilots. Honda seems very concerned aboutit.

I was at Honda looking at the Odessey. My heart was not into the "minivan scene", and fortunately for me, the sales manager told me about the upcoming Pilot. My wife and I waited a few months, and all I can say is "THANK G-D FOR THAT" Its a great vehicle! It rides like a car, its roomy and really comfortable. So far, we love it! People have stopped us on the road, in gas stations and parking lots just to take a look and get our thoughts. Its fun to be in something "brand new". Everyone and their grandma are riding in the Explorer these days! Honda strikes again!

  • An all-star utility player - 2017 Honda Pilot

We looked at the Tahoe, Armada and Highlander and the pilot won us over on its winning combination of performance, economy, advanced AWD system and value. We travel to Vermont often on narrow, private roads that are not always plowed well. Hondas i-VTM is really the Acura SH-AWD with torque vectoring. On dry roads it helps some, but it is also a winner in the deep snow, shifting power left to right as well as front to back as needed. Really great system. The cargo space in this rig is HUGE, especially with part or all of the 3rd row down. The cargo area is equivalent is size to the Tahoe and more usable as the load floor is lower. The acceleration is decent and I like the intake noise as the VTEC kicks in at higher revs. Without flogging it, Ive seen high 20s for MPG on the highway. Overall, over the first 1500 miles, weve gotten 23 MPG combined. The 9 speed feels a bit weird around 4th or 5th gear but it isnt a big deal. The push button shifter took some getting use to, but after a day we were used to it and it wasnt a big deal. I really liked the looks of the Tahoe, but for the money (and even not considering the money), the Pilot is an unbeatable combo of utility, economy and performance.

I tested in snow by taking it for a spin, and it maintained its grip on the pavement. Engine sounds powerful and responsive. My biggest issue is with the mileage claim. Honda say 17/22, and I have consistently getting no more than 18 miles on mostly highway drive.

  • Awesome PILOT - 2009 Honda Pilot

I had this Pilot for almost 2 months now and have put in about 3,500 miles including California trip for Christmas. Kids love the Rear Seat Entertainment, iPod connection and awesome sound system. It is very nimble and fun to drive and better gas mileage than my 2004 Toyota Sequoia. I got the "show vehicle" so it came loaded with accessories including running boards, front & back aluminum cover and the front grille is upgraded & shiny. Since my Pilot is loaded, it is a "looker". The grille actually looked more like an HDMI than a USB port as observed by others. So, there you go, a High Definition SUV.

Its big. Takes up more space in our garage than our old pathfinder. Great comfort but not much personality. Family loves it.
