Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • Nice Truck but not an Acura MDX - 2003 Honda Pilot

What is missing from the Pilot are the little things. Poor rear viewing. Need: Backup sensor. Jumped a friends (very expensive) sports car bumper parked directly behind us at a New Years Eve Party. Not a scratch on the Pilot but the tailpipe cut his bumper and broke his headlight. The only other negative is you cannot open a side window while traveling without having a helicopter like air wave go through the car. I have heard that this is common with many SUVs. PRICE WAS RIGHT. High residual value lead to favorable lease.

Very satisfied (except for bizarre positioning of headrests)so I will comment on 2 misconceptions about the Pilot. #1: Too expensive. Those who say its overpriced, I defy you to match overall value against any other SUV. If you paid over MSRP, well, there is one born every minute... #2: Gas mileage criticism. Does anyone know of a non-mini SUV that gets over 20 mpg average besides the Pilot?

Everything a suburbanites SUV should be: sure, supple, spacious and strong. I have pulled a full 5x8 UHaul trailer across the Appalachians twice on cruise control (add the tow pkg). My wife loves driving it around town. Handling is superb and I can carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood flat. Only problem is drivers left leg needs more "wiggle room" on long drives.

  • Im disappointed, Honda!!! - 2003 Honda Pilot

1 week after I bought the Honda Pilot, I had two different rattle noise coming from the dashboard area. One was fixed, the other one is still there. I also experience the starter problem like what other people have experienced and discussed in edmunds.com and honda- pilot.org. To my understanding, Honda still does not plan to take any corrective action on the problem. Im very disappointed with the Pilot quality, though I have owned my 99 Accord for more than 4 years and never had any problem.

  • Good Buy For the $ - 2003 Honda Pilot

The Pilot is a good value. You get a "full sized" SUV for not much more money than the small ones and the vehicle is way better.

  • Not nearly as good as expected - 2009 Honda Pilot
    By -

We bought this vehicle with great expectations based on reputation. We are disappointed with it so far. To start, its vastly underpowered with poor acceleration. Entering/exiting is difficult due to awkward position of the drivers seat, which doesnt move back automatically when entering/exiting. Drivers position is poor as your knees rest on the dash when seated in reach of the steering wheel. Audio system is poorly designed. When watching rear DVD system, the system insists on ProLogic II surround mode. The center channel speaker is located in dash, so people in back cant hear movie dialog unless volume is cranked, which is annoying for people in front.

  • MAN! I wanted to love this... - 2014 Honda Pilot
    By -

As an owner of a 2005 Honda Pilot EX, and itching to get a new ride, I test drove the 2014 Honda Pilot EX-L while I was getting a new catalytic converter at the dealership. The exterior was beautiful (Im a fan of the "squarer" bodies and think the new ones blend in with everyone elses vehicle), and the interior was "standard" Honda (definitely not as appealing as a Highlander, but Im not picky). Everything was great, until I pulled onto the highway... OMG, can I just tell you that my 2005 Pilot has MUCH MORE pick up than the 2014! I have a heavy foot, and when I merge I want to get to the speed limit as soon as possible...well, not with this one. You gotta be kidding me! The salesman said it has something to do with ECON but honestly, its an SUV - I dont care about gas mileage (I know... I should...) Plus there is no way to "save on gas" with the way I drive. What a disappointment!

There isnt a negative thing to say about the Pilot. I think its the Best in its class on the market. No one can beat or even match Hondas Reputation for quality and realiabilty. Would highly recommend the Pilot! Drive it, youll love it!
