Overview & Reviews
The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.
- Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
- Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

Pilot - Try It! - 2005 Honda Pilot
By TKaz - July 17 - 9:13 amGreat Vehicle! More than enough power, super handling, tons of safety features, great attention to detail both inside and outside. Some road noise, but the standard sound system makes up for it. Gas mileage is very competitive to like vehicles. Very very roomy. Some day Honda will increase its warranty package, but this is my 5th Honda, and Im not too concerned. New feature - 1st maintenance job now at 105K miles!

All wheel drive - 2005 Honda Pilot
By Pedro Cortez - July 16 - 10:20 amThe car is great. Except the All wheel drive maintenance! I change the engine oil every 3K, but the differential HAS to be changed every 5K (6K). This is pricey at every other oil change. Other than that, I would probably buy another one, in 12 years. I also found and replaced the air filter with a cold air intake. A little bit better gas mileage, and bit better performance off the line.

Great SUV - 2005 Honda Pilot
By carmenda - July 9 - 9:56 amFun to drive SUV. Compared to Nissan Pathfinder and found the pathfinder drives like a truck. This SUV drives so smooth and reminds me of the Honda Accord. Test drive this SUV and you wont be disappointed.

best auto on the road - 2005 Honda Pilot
By papadad913 - June 6 - 9:50 amwe just traded a 2003 pilot ex for a 2005 ex. we put 50,000 miles on it, and it was still perfect. in fact, with very little touch up, it was put out the next day as a honda certified used car. 100,000 mile guarantee.

Great SUV by Stan - 2005 Honda Pilot
By Great SUV by Stan - May 2 - 11:36 pmI put 700 miles on it so far. Mileage has been 16 w/ mostly freeway, but with the air on. Ride is smooth. Not big at all. It has more room in the front two seats than the Expedition. Very quiet inside. Less road noise than some reviews have said. Car wants to go especially when you slow down and then accelerate while in coming out of traffic. Navigation covers 48 states not just a few and its easy to operate. Screen is easy to see too.

Almost a Jeep - 2005 Honda Pilot
By crm - April 4 - 1:02 pmBought the Pilot used to replace a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. Slid the Pilot on ice into a fence (minimal damage - breakaways and scratches only!), and rented my old favorite (Jeep) while being repaired -- found out I missed the Pilot so much! Solid vehicle, so far very reliable! Gas mileage depends upon my foot - have gotten 19.5mpg around town and 24mpg highway when driving carefully, but the 255hp is too tempting! So I average 18/22 instead! Am VERY happy for around town, long trips, family adventures - fits everything we do!

Pilot - 2005 Honda Pilot
By JCL - April 1 - 5:16 amWeve had it only a few days but we love our new pilot. The interior room is surprisingly large. You can really get 8 people in it. The nav system is fun to play with and pretty accurate. The sound system is awesome. The whole interior is spacious and well thought out. Lots of room for things. The ride is very comfortable and car- like.

BUY THIS ONE! - 2005 Honda Pilot
By Walt L. - February 19 - 2:53 pmWith a family of five (3 kids 9,6,&4), we desired an SUV w/ a third row and a dvd. I personally desired leather. After months of research, it came down to the 2005 Pilot and the 2005 Pathfinder. With basically the same amenities, the Honda came in about $3,000 less than the Pathfinder. We are extremely pleased with our purchase. The Pilot has excellent room and superb power. If you are looking for a so-called "mid-size" SUV, BUY THE PILOT!

Best SUV I have ever had. - 2005 Honda Pilot
By John - February 16 - 12:54 pmWe bought this 2005 EX-L to replace a 2003 Pilot. After 57,00 miles, this has been the best driving SUV I have ever owned. The power was surprisingly peppy. It is easy to maneuver and drives more like a car than a truck. I am having a difficult time justifying paying up for a 2009 Pilot that weighs 177 pounds more, 3ft pounds more torque, but 5 less horsepower (250 vs 255). I added the tow package on myself and tow my motorcycles, Waverunner, and loaded utility trailer weighing 2000#+ with ease through Wisconsin hills. I bought an aftermarket Garmin GPS and dont really miss any of the other new gadgets. We have had a few minor problems that were covered by the warranty. Great in snow/ice.
