Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • Safety Issues, Anyone?! - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

I love driving this car, enough to trade in a low milage 2013 Pilot for it. However... I have several issues, and as others have stated, Honda rushes to close cases of complaints... official statement by Honda Corporate Customer Service: "It works as designed, there is no problem." #1 The hood on the car flexes/bends in ALL directions when passing 18 wheelers at highway speeds on windy days in the desert: I have filed a report with the NTSB. The dealer cannot duplicate this condition, so the case keeps getting closed... well see about that! #2 The Touch Screen System is Junk! Not only is it slow and hard to navigate, I have now been told from Honda that ".. you cannot connect a phone to the usb port and use the phone to place a call at the same time." Say WHAT?! The phone will only work on bluetooth, and will not do that if the phone is plugged in to listen to music that is stored on it. SO, if you need to make an emergency call, you have to unplug the phone... but good luck getting a fast connection, or any connection, without turning the car off to reboot the system. Not only that, but their system has corrupted two iPhone 6s in a row; the first one had to be replaced, and lost all data on it... A senior Tech at Apple said they have never seen a phone corrupted to this level #3 The receiver hitch is designed and built with a steep angle towards the ground in it: want to use a flat platform to move things? Watch it hit the ground on any steep driveway... and your bikes will not hang straight on a bike rack: that larger the rack, the worse it is. #4 The roof rack... is useless! My 2013 had openings in the side rails to attach straps/lines too.. where did they go? The new racks are very difficult to tie too, and the side rails also come shipped painted Silver Metallic Flake: ALL models, same color! I made my dealer paint it black to match my white cars trim. That was before finding out how useless the rack is... 8/11/2016 Update Did not drive car for four months: drove it to Arizona last week: #1 Hood still flexing in four directions when passing 18 wheelers on the freeway. #2 Touch screen completely blacked out twice during the trip: had to pull off the freeway, shut the car off and back on to reboot computer..?! Still refuses to interface with my iPhone 6, but at least it did not destroy my phones software as it did twice before... both phones had to be replaced: Apple says they have never seen this level of damage to their OS before. #3 Gas pump nozzle did not shut off quick enough, spilled small amount of gas around the filler tube and into the built in drain: entire car filled with gas fumes, had to roll down all the windows and wait a half hour to continue driving... #4 Gas fill cover does not lay flat on fender: dealer says they are all arriving that way, there is no fix! Dropped the car at the dealer yesterday, told them to keep it until it gets repaired: told them I will file a Lemon Law case against them if they do not repair it asap. Dealer has stated they have a major problem with all of their vehicles with Touch Screens, but Corporate Customer Care still claims there are no issues.

  • No longer an SUV - 2016 Honda Pilot

The redesigned Pilot is more of a minivan than an SUV. Just sitting behind the wheel makes you feel like your in a minivan with the lack of a center console and flimsy fold down arm rests. The quality of the materials is very good, however it does not drive well. The ride is very smooth, but the steering is very light and does not feel stable. There is a heavy bottom weighted feel that is very weird and unnatural. You really can not feel the road at all. The lane watch feature and the back up camera are welcomed safety features, however the touch screen display is just annoying and is cumbersome to operate. I personally do not like it, nor do I care for the push button start. These are not welcomed features. The one touch seat decline/ movement is a nice feature, but more money and engineering should have gone into the steering and handling to make this a better handling vehicle. Sadly, the salesman told me very few people that have driven the new Pilot have liked the way it handled. I am not sure what Honda was thinking, but they need to go back to the drawing board on this.

I was trying to buy something else and When I finally had enough of being treated like an idiot,I went to the dealership next door. The Pilot was Consumer Reports #1 pick for mid-size SUV. Jeremy showed me how everything was reconfigured inside to make room for some new things, like a real holder for your cell phone & charger,a business card holder & a place for an actual pen! Cup holders & hidden storage galore! The car drove like I was literally riding on a cloud,(maybe thats why they called it the Pilot?) and thats coming from the pot-hole capital of the world!(New Jersey)We love our Pilot, and the wonderful people at DCH Kay Honda in Eatontown!

Pilot has smooth ride and tons of room - plenty of head and leg room for a 65" driver. We are extremely satisfied with our purchase.

Great AWD system for folks who love to ski. Overall handling quite nimble for an SUV of its size. Lots of comfort in head and shoulder room. Im 65" and couldnt fit in a Toyota 4Runner which I was considering.

Great vehicle to own. This is replacing a older pilot that I have owned since 2008. Very, very dependable.

Excellent SUV for families with 8 seat versatility and a smooth, powerful (240 hp) and quiet ride. Drives like a sedan. Worth purchasing leather/entertainment system for kids. Dual climate control is fast and efficient.
