Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • Transmission getting replaced as I type on touring - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

I heard a chirping sound in my car the last 2 weeks & made an appointment at the dealership. They didnt know what it was, but thought it could be the transmission. They put me in a rental car & called today to tell me that they have to order a whole new transmission for the car!!! I just bought the car in October & this is such a disappointment! Do not recommend!

  • Transmission/Radio Issues - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

Read up on the 9 speed transmission in the touring and elite models. Acura has a TSB supposedly addressing these but none has been release for Pilot, which is frustrating since they are the same transmission. Low gears are "jerky", acceleration when stopping (DANGEROUS!) The radio; plain and simple, AWFUL. The fade that is all over the forums for FM is absolutely ridiculous. Reminds me of a "jambox" from back in the day that had old batteries - sound fades in and out. Many on the forums have said Honda has stated it has to do with cycling back and forth between stereo and mono; really Honda. In a 40+K car in 2016 you have issues with FM???!! First Honda Ive owned and unless they get these issues corrected quickly, definitely my last. Very disappointed so far.

I got this car last week and am loving it so far. Very smartly designed, super sleek look, and incredibly comfortable.

  • Great Car - 2016 Honda Pilot

I traded in my 2010 Toyota Sienna last October. The first thing the 2016 Pilot impressed me is its fuel economy. It is much better than my Toyota van. In the Minnesota winter, I could get average of 20 mpg for mixed local and freeway drivings. The new Pilot is also very quiet, much lower road noise compared to the minivan I had. The ride is so smooth and stable. On a smooth road, you just cant feel the speed you are driving. With the AWD, it handles so well on snow. The car doesnt look big from outside, but sitting inside you feel its quite roomy. I had 8 adult rides several times and never heard anyone complained. Before I bought the Pilot, I read much about the problems with the same 9-speed transmission on Jeep. But I never had any issue with my transmission. It always shifts smoothly up and down, and reacts swiftly. I guess Honda must have a better software control. The lane keeping technology works very well even with poor road marks, at night, and in rain conditions. I really enjoy driving the 2016 Pilot.

  • Miami Pilot - 2003 Honda Pilot

Our 2003 pilot has 29,000 miles and has been a pleasure to own. Other than regular scheduled oil changes and gas when needed, it has not required any maintenance at all. Our kids love the entertainment system (first one weve ever had) and they love the SUV style (again, first SUV weve ever owned). The pilot drives like a car and does not waste any more gas than our 2000 6 cyl. Maxima did. My wife and kids love their Pilot, I like it too!

  • Almost perfect - 2004 Honda Pilot

I am having a great time with my Pilot. I can drive anywhere day or night and feel completely safe in my reliable Honda. I feel it has great personality. Like the fairy tale says: This SUV is too BIG, this SUV is too small, but the Honda Pilot is just RIGHT.

  • OUTSTANDING - 2004 Honda Pilot

I bought this honda pilot in Feb 2003 i drive an average of 40 miles a day to work and i live way out in the country and this SUV is the best i have ever owned. Gas mileage is not the best but SUVs arent known for gas mileage. Great SUV.

  • A Fantastic SUV - 2004 Honda Pilot

This is proabably the best car Ive ever owned. Its turning radius makes maneuvering a breeze, its reliable, peppy, and super-well designed inside and out. Fantastic room inside. The ONLY thing I can say I miss is the automatic-on headlights for daytime driving,a minor thing. Everything else about owning the car has been a joy.

  • Horrible fuel consumption - 2007 Honda Pilot
    By -

The fuel consumption estimate on the sales sticker states 17 MPG city and 22 MPG highway. I get from 9 to 12 MPG. Dealer keeps telling me to wait for the engine to break in but as I put more miles on this gas guzzler, the fuel efficiency is getting worse.

  • Pilot with a Noisy Bottom - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

I feel comfortable driving the Pilot. It is great for long trips. The seats go down in the back for more storage and when traveling. It is a nine passenger vehicle, which is great when you need the room for others. I love the leather interior. The DVD Player is excellent. Great surround sound when playing a movie. I feel safe when driving this vehicle. Over all it is a great car.
