  • Brilliantly Designed & Built - 2003 Honda Pilot

The Pilot borrows from both the Odyssey & MDX and adds a touch of its own. There is plenty of room for 8, & the detailed finishing and features for the interior are truely well thought out. It has a quiet interior and the view from around the cabin is excellent. Its going to be an excellent road cruiser and versatility of the seat configurations allows even tall passengers to be comfortable on long journey - you can always fold the one or both of the middle row seats for the extra leg room...there is even reclining middle row seats! The power is more than adequate and the fuel economy is excellent for the size. The best thing is that 85/86 octane can be used!

Just got the thing this morning. Drove 150 miles with it today. I have the white with leather trim and a DVD; the dealer also added mud flaps and cargo mat and crossbars on the overhead rack. Was marked up at the dealer 800 over MSRP but worth it. Its a great vehicle. The seats arent as comfortable as the american cars we considered (Bravada) and the dash has too much plastic and no wood which is odd for a $35,000 SUV. But that being said its very sold; very good looking; very . . . Honda (which is to say good)

We had just purchased the vechile and a nearby delership who got early shipments. Worth every penny that we had to pay over sticker.

Have recently left BMW (3 series) and am satisfied with the performance, comfort and handling. actually considering the type of vehicle, Im impressed. Toyota was my #2 choice, 3rd row seating and Honda performance tipped the scale.

  • Great, but need improvement - 2003 Honda Pilot

I am not an owner yet, but did some research on the Pilot. Good value for the money in its class, but need improvements. We need a bigger vehicle for our baby, and home improvement project for our new house. Maybe, we wait another year to see if Honda improves the Pilots. In my opinion, Hondas been playing game with demands vs. supplies. Honda makes profit at least $3000 per high demand vehicle (Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, 3.2 TL) not fair for customers. My 99 Accord has oil leak from transmission at 50K mile. This is NOT typical for a Honda. Should I buy a Honda again? I know Honda and Toyota have very good resale values.

Just drove the vehicle on a +800 mile trip around Washington State. Sorry I bought it. I believe that it is unsafe. It sways more than any vehicle I have driven in a decade. Uneven road surfaces produce a tail-wagging effect when loaded. Couple this with an over-sprung/under dampened rear suspension and it spells nothing but trouble. Best milage for the trip was 20-mpg.

  • Pricy for a first year model - 2003 Honda Pilot

I purchased my Pilot and enjoy it as a very nice to drive vehicle from a company with a superior reputation. My buying expierence was not good and I wound up paying almost $4,000 over MSRP. My wife fell in love with the vehicle and it is such a pleasure to drive. The expected long term resale value and reliability history are the major reasons we bought this vehicle. It seems very powerful and handles very well. We have only driven our Pilot 200 miles and have the same things to praise and complain about. The engine is very smooth and powerful. The vehicle drives and looks nice. It does look kind of plain and everything extra costs $$$$$.

  • What a nice surprise! - 2003 Honda Pilot

Test drove Explorer 2002 and a number of vans but could not feel committed to spending 25K+ on any of them. Then saw the reviews for Honda and gave local portland dealer a call and he had an EX-L in Sandstone metallic! I had driven Odyssey and also knew all good MDX was, and once I test drove the Pilot I was sold within a few minutes. I liked how centered and precise the steering was for an 8 person vehicle. The ride was smooth and the driver position excellent. The ergonomics are nearly perfect and overall looks like a well thought out vehicle. Very satisfied but still miss the acceleration of my I30 and the BOSE. sigh....

  • Annoying Rattles and wind noise - 2003 Honda Pilot
    By -

Let me first say that Hondas rock, however I should have known better to buy a 1st year Vehicle. We have a annoying rattle coming from the passenger front window as well as something rattling in the passenger side dashboard. It is going into the shop in 2 weeks. Gas mileage is okay and the 240 horsepower is nice, but the 03 Accord has the very same enginge! Why would you put the same engine in your SUV? It should have a 280+ HP enginve. Just my .02!
