Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • Better than All Others!! - 2004 Honda Pilot

I go this about 6 months ago and have had nothing but fun driving it. While an 8-cylinder may have been more fun, this has everything I wanted and at a better price than all the other SUVs. Has more room, better gas mileage, more comfort and a smoother ride than even its more expensive older brother the Acura MDX. I cannot say enough, I just love this SUV... I have had Honda Accords most of my driving life and this is better than them.

  • Suave SUV - 2003 Honda Pilot

Hondas has done it! A sorely needed replacement for the aging and unpopular Passport. With an excellent engine and body platform, I couldnt go wrong. If you are not pulling a large load, its the best all-around choice for an SUV. I got 16.6 mpg first tank but it should get better. With 240 HP its enough for the intended market. I ordered mine at MSRP (but options are discounted) from Kevin Keen of Ken Wise Honda in Marshalltown Iowa over the phone. They drove it to Mpls w/no extra charges. Its my third Honda from the same dealer (CR-V, Odyssey, and now the Pilot.) Small town dealer offers great service!

  • Versatile SUV - 2004 Honda Pilot

While I was attracted to this SUV by magazine reviews, it was the owner reviews and discussions with other owners that encouraged me to road test it. Although I had auditioned the Explorer, Durango, Trailblazer, Envoy, and Highlander, I did not find them to offer the overall features, versatility, and quality of the Pilot. In driving the Pilot, I have a good feel of the road and excellent visibility (although the mirrors must be very carefully adjusted to eliminate blind spots). This is a very well designed vehicle.

  • No Complaints - 2003 Honda Pilot

While the Pilots not the most flashy SUV on the market, its certainly the best. It has a solid feel, with a comfortable ride. Quality all over - My first Honda, and Im hooked.

  • Best Mid-size SUV around - 2003 Honda Pilot

Excellent vehicle. The latest of 12 Hondas I have owned. Great acceleration, even through the mtns. City~18mpg, Hwy~22-24 mpg. Have four kids and wanted SUV (in addition to our 99 Odyssey). No problems so far (8K miles.) Typical high Honda quality. Quietest Honda Ive owned. Cant beat quality, reliability, features and price (even at MSRP). Cant put a price on dependability when the family is in the car.

Own this car for less than a month and it drives like a dream. This is my 4th new Honda and I know I can expect this standard of performance for many years to come

  • Great 2nd Pilot - 2009 Honda Pilot

Just traded my 2005 Pilot for 2009 Touring with Nav and DVD. Looked at MDX, RX350, X5, CX-9, and Murano. This is much better than the others.

  • So far so good - 2003 Honda Pilot

Been driving around with for almost a month now and so far so good. Took it to for a long drive (LA to Bay Area) and was smooth all the way ... including uphill and good hold downhill.

  • The best - 2003 Honda Pilot
    By -

We looked at almost all the SUVs out there. The Pilot was the best. The expedition is a truck, the highlander is smaller (too many colors inside), the Sequoia was nice but price was much higher and the inside dashboard was not impressive. MDX, nice car $6000 more than the Pilot. Its just a great SUV. It drives very nice and smooth. The DVD is a life saver for our 20 month old who did not like to go for car rides now runs to the pilot to watch his movies.
