Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Bought on 6/2/2002. No problems. So far, have driven 65,000 miles. All over country and Canada. Only oil changes, transmission fluid. Lots of power. The interior is very well thought out. The access to oil filter change is excellent. Drives very smooth and quiet for a SUV.

First time Honda buyer, pleased with vehicle. It meets all expectations except for outside temp gauge which seems to be 10 degrees off and not pleased with passenger seat not enough adjustments to make it more comfortable. Pleased with regular gas usage. Great for economy in an SUV. Lastly dealership claims not enough knowledge provided to them about this new vehicle.

  • Very good SUV with small but important flaws - 2016 Honda Pilot

I really wanted to buy this SUV, however Honda overlooked a few small but very important flaws it has. These small things were turned into actual deal breakers for me. Honda could fix these easily, and should, because I cant be the only one having these issues. 1) Dual Armrests. They are very skinny and too close to the seat for me. Im a bigger guy at 63 and my right arm naturally falls on the outside if this armrest. To even stick my elbow on it I have to push my elbow tight into my body. I can do without an armrest for a short journey but what about road trips? Why cant Honda just have a regular armrest like the Pilot used to have or what every other SUV has? This one small detail was the largest deal breaker for me. 2) Why cant Honda have a height adjustable front passenger seat? Even in a 40+ thousand dollar SUV its not offered? My wife is short at 51 and the seat is too low. On a long road trip it would make her car sick. What about children in the front seat? Honda cheaped out on this small detail. That was deal breaker #2. The others next are smaller flaws I could have looked past. 3) Why cant the rear tail gate open higher and be adjustable? In such a large SUV I shouldnt have to duck my head so I dont hit it. The tail gate doesnt go any higher up than my wifes small VW Tiguan does. 4) The drivers lumbar support is not very good. It did not do a good job of giving my lower back support. Other than those 4 simple things I couldnt find anything else I disliked about the Honda Pilot. Its really a shame I couldnt buy it and that the decision not to buy had to based on these simple flaws. These flaws Honda could easily fix for 2017, but I dont think they will. I guess I have to look into the Toyota Highlander next.

Great Car, fun to drive. The interior was really well thought out. The Pilot feels solid and handles very well. I looked at several mid size SUVs and this one was the most spacious and family friendly.

  • Great upgrade - 2016 Honda Pilot

This is our fourth Honda, we traded our 2011 Odyssey on this new Pilot and wow what a nice upgrade. The SUV drives great, it has some great safety features with plenty of power balanced with efficiency. We drove a few other SUVs prior to making this purchase and pilot is great value for your money. All the reliability of a Honda with some luxury features that just outshine other vehicles in this price range. Perfect for our family moving out of the mini van stage. Still plenty of room if our College/Career aged Sons join us on a trip or if we need to haul any gear. But a very respectable ride for work and pleasure, love the features of remote start, adaptive cruise, and lane keeping. Really nice for day trips for work or weekend getaways.

The build quality, ride and interior space are exceptional. Other than not having a sunroof it has all the creature comforts one could ask for.

  • Honda Pilot is Fun to Own - 2004 Honda Pilot

I really like the Honda Pilot. I now can more people around. Before that, I had a Honda Civic. I could only fit 4 adults in the Civic comfortably. The Pilot is fun to drive, it has a wide turning circle. Parking the car is easy.

  • Excellent Mid Size SUV - 2004 Honda Pilot

Excellent family vehicle. Versatile and fun to drive. Great handling and performance. Safety is an important feature- the Pilot has the best safety rating in its class. This is important for my family.
