Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Great ride overall. Comfy interior, smooth ride, great storage, 3rd row seating, intelligent entry system & remote start are wonderful. The all wheel.drive system is phenominal, as we got to try it out in snow/ice the weekend after we bought it. Kids love it, wife loves it too. Cons are semi-weak acceleration and soft braking, as well as no access to 3rd row with child seats installed on both sides of 2nd row. The speakers are weak too, and Ive tried many bass/treble/subwoofer/fade combinations. The entertainment system takes some getting used to, and is slow at times, but far surpasses anything Ive ever owned. We were able to get ours right at market pricing. Overall, we enjoy our 2016 Pilot, and are glad we chose it over the Ford and Odyssey we were considering.

Weve had our 2006 for about a month. Overall we find it to be a solid and easy to drive vehicle. It has all of the features that we need and plenty of room. A rattle in the suspension and an annoying vibration during acceleration detract from our enjoyment of the vehicle. Hopefully these can be corrected on the first service visit.

  • Pretty Good - 2003 Honda Pilot

I replaced my 96 Toyota 4Runner with the Pilot EX. The interior design is pretty cool. The metallic finish makes it look smart. It rides pretty well but handling is not as great as the 4Runner since the vehicle rolls too much. Seat comfort is also not too great. But I liked the automatic AC and stereo. The fold down third row is nice too since it folds down into the floor. Climbing into the vehicle is pretty easy as compared to the 4Runner and short people do not need s side step.

Since I first test drove this SUV in 2004 and now in 2006, what a difference! The interior is roomy and set up for everyones comfort. I am tall and its just perfect for all size people. I bought the 2007 model.

cons- (keep in mind that my vehicle is 11 years old) *one of my headlight lenses has moisture build up on the inside, *my cd changer malfunctions often (I have 2 cd players. The one that only takes one cd at a time plays just fine *the rubber molding around the lift gate is loosening *the keys no longer will fit nor unlock the driver door *had to replace the fan as a piece of it had come loose *when not in use, the air conditioning/heating unit makes a low grumbling noise unless the control knob is turned as far as it will go on hot or cold (when it is not in use) *the older it gets the more sensitive it is to gasoline grade. The engine light will come on if it doesnt like the gas but will go off when that gas has run out *sometimes I can smell antifreeze, but have never had a problem with the radiator or the engine temperature running too hot pros- I LOVE MY PILOT!!!!!! *It has a weird sound when its starting up (Id recognize my SUV starting up from any other vehicle) but it has NEVER failed me *it handles the road beautifully *its still a smooth ride *the engine is still quiet *the sound system is awesome *it has taken me to Lake Erie from NC at least 5 times or more per year, several times to Miami, all over the east coast, in snow storms and heavy rain with no problems whatsoever! *I love the ease of changing from 2 rows of seats to 3 rows and everyone seats comfortably *it has plenty of storage spaces and cup holders *it has quick acceleration (hubby got a warning ticket for his speed, he wasnt ready!) *I have been blessed to never have had a major repair bill. The most that I have paid for a repair is $150 for the fan *theres so much more about my PILOT that I could add. I just love it and will get another one. My Dad is looking to get one and my daughter is looking for a CRV. Love the Honda motor!!!!

after test driving all suvs with ample space to fit a stroller, childs bike, fat yellow lab, costco supplies, groceries and other necessities, the pilot offers the reliability, space, comfort and practical accessories to make it a great suv for a reasonable price :-)

We bought our Pilot to replace a Yukon XL. We test drove the Pilot and fell in love! The dealership was a breeze to do business with, we got an excellent deal. The ride of the Pilot is so smooth and the shifting of the vehicle is hardly noticable, huge plus from the Yukon. We have two children and they LOVE this SUV! Both have lots of room and seating choices...they DONT have to sit by each other. The DVD system is a lifesaver on long roadtrips. We cant say enuf about our Pilot!
