Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Things that have gone wrong in the first 6 months:DVD player replaced due to faulty sensor, faulty oil pressure sensor replaced, drivers power window switch(auto down feature) broke, drivers seat loose and dealer cant find fix, passenger side seat recliner broke (part on back order),rear seat A/C vents fragile and have broke twice, left front A/C vent loose and wont stay in the position you want, clunking/thunmping noise under the hood when you turn on A/C,battery died (dealer replaced).I truly believe these are teething problems,as we have one of the first made.I will NEVER buy a first year model again.

  • Best value in a Family SUV - 2006 Honda Pilot

I wasnt a big fan of the exterior design of the Honda Pilot, but the changes made in 2006 made it a lot more appealing, eventhough the changes were minor. The interior is much improved as well...esp. the dashlighting. The SUV drives more like a luxury car than a truck. The EX comes with a ton of standard features esp. new safety features like side curtain airbags and Stability control. Features I would have had to pay thousands more on the Sequoia I was also considering. So far the fuel economy has been pretty good(@20mpg) for a large SUV with the best being 22.5mpg on mostly highway driving. Had a chance to test the AWD in some snow over christmas and the Pilot passed with flying colors

Very nice car to own. Navigation system is very clear and easy to use and personalize with your own choice of colors, voice (male/female), etc. Rides great, powerful engine, and seems to be a very solid and well built vehicle. My only two gripes are fairly minor ones. 1) After parking and turning off the ignition, you cant open the door unless the door is unlocked first. Ive never been in a car where you cant just open the door from the inside regardless of whether or not the door is locked or unlocked. Fairly annoying to always try to open the door, then realize its locked, flip the lock open, then go back to open it again. 2) Stereo sound quality could be much better.

We purchased the Honda after careful consideration of similar vehicles. Construction and fit/finish is excellent, we couldn’t find defects. The handling and ride are good, but speed bumps are a different thing. If you take one above 5-10mph the passengers get a pretty rough jolt, where as my Nissan frontier can take speed bump at 25mph with little effect. The ride of the Pilot is between car like and the truck like ride of the other SUVs.

  • Gotta love Hondas!! - 2009 Honda Pilot

Test drove many different SUVs but Honda Pilot was just eye catching, its ride comfort unmatched. There were so many options to stow your stuff and transport an entire family comfortably. I was a bit surprised that the mileage was low for a Honda but with my driving style expect to come up at the higher range.

I am very happy with the new pilot and would recommend it to anyone. It suroasses all of its competition with flying colors. I currently have 24000 miles on it and have had no problems whatsoever. Thank you Honda!

On the whole, excellent. We love this car. Only real downsides are that the radio/display is sluggish. Plan on a full second delay before response. The cruise control lane assist is a bit aggressive for my liking. I tend to use the full width of the lane not just the center.

I cant believe the power that the little 3.5 liter V6 puts out. Much better than the 4.6 liter V8 in the Ford Crown Victoria that it replaced, and it blows the doors off my 5.1 liter V8 powered F150. Its a dream to drive on the highway, even towing my boat. Very comfortable seating, although I sometimes have difficulty finding a place to put my left foot. Plenty of interior lighting, and the sound system with sub-woofer sounds great. My only complaints are that there is a lot of road noise, and the fuel economy (17-18 mpg) could be better, by hey, its an SUV, so you cant expect miracles. Cant wait to see how it handles in a New England winter.
