Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Greta SUV to drive, we have had our for six months. Kids love the DVD ente. system. The only fight is for what movie to watch. We had long trips without any problems. Great Honda service.

I have had this SUV for over a year. I love it. It is great. I have only one complaint the third seat is a little too small. An adult or even a teenager can not fit in it. It is made STRICTLY FOR KIDS. If the seat was a little bigger I wouldnt be able to find anything wrong with the car. It has an ample amount of power with great standard features. It is great for the price. You know that the resale value will be high and that it is very reliable because it is after all a HONDA.

  • Good all purpose vehicle - 2003 Honda Pilot

In general, the Pilot is a great all purpose vehicle. I have four kids and it fits them and my wife and our stuff comfortably. Drives like a car, easy to park, great sound system, handles well in most situations. Good acceleration and good braking. The ABS probably prevented a fender bender or two! Main issue is driving with windows open: YOU CANT! If you exceed 40mph with open windows, the resulting vibration is unbearable. Need to try those window air-foil things.

  • DO NOT BUY THIS CAR WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION! - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

We traded in our 2011 Honda Pilot, and went for the top of the line this time. While the interior and amenities are very nice, they dont make up for the problems with the transmission. Two months after purchasing the car we noticed a whining sound while accelerating. Took them 2 months and me being very insistent on getting a fix, which was a new wiring harness. Recently the vehicle started having transmission problems, similar to other reviews. Transmission was glitchy, lurching, missing gears, this was most notable when climbing a hill. The vehicle then started with some sort of belt squeaking noise, engine then started overheating while idling. Back to Honda Service...."somehow" transmission fluid had gotten into the radiator, and the Honda service verified the transmission problem, the fix replacing the entire transmission. Found out at the Honda Service desk that they had to replace a transmission on another Elite just a few weeks before mine. After doing extensive research on this 9 speed transmission, it seems this transmission is not reliable. I too like other Elite owners, am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA. Why would they put this transmission in their most expensive vehicle? I have called American Honda to open a case, with the hopes of getting out of this car and into a Pilot EX-L with the tried and true 6 speed transmission. Of course the dealer with "let" me trade my car in and accomplish this, and then I can loose twelve grand. SHAME ON YOU HONDA!!!

  • Awesome SUV for Moms - 2003 Honda Pilot

This is a great family car.. an alternative to the minivan. We can fit our baby, all of his things, all of our things and our 120 lb. dog comfortably. The ride is extremely smooth and the car is very manageable. It has everthing I need and doesnt feel too big even though it is fairly large. Love it!

Awesome! I would take any Honda any day but the Pilot is my fav.

  • Love my pilot - 2009 Honda Pilot

I traded my 06 Accord in for a Pilot because of space issues after having our first child. I love my Pilot! The space in the back is amazing (with the back seat laid down). The drive is awesome. My husband keeps saying he can not believe how well it drives. The gas mileage is a bit disappointing but we realized that it would drop drastically from my Accord. we are averaging around 17-18 mpg. One complaint is the fog light inserts. Because of the base model, the just put some plastic caps in them. Not too attractive. And the rear ac/heat controls are only in the back of the middle console, so you cant see them from the front seat to change.

Wonderful power and handling. Huge inside, great combo of utility and sporty car like drive.

  • I drove almost every SUV out there - 2017 Honda Pilot
    By -

Extremely quiet and comfortable. I got 32 MPG on a new tank over a 4+ hour drive to New York. I drove every SUV out there before deciding on the Pilot. I had a CRV for 11 years and wanted another but, even though the CRV gets all of the rave reviews, I wasnt overly impressed by the drive. Im 64 and really wanted quiet comfort. The step up to the 6 cyl in the Pilot was what I needed.
