Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • breaking in a new vehicle - 2003 Honda Pilot

I waited 1 year for this SUV and i think it was well worth it. It drives like a "moms car"; soft, quiet, etc and has all the utility features of a minivan. im not sure about reliability because, right off the lot, rear heating didnt work and one of the front vent broke off. other than than, i get the feeling that the car is well built all around, typical of honda. my thumb is up and we(my relatives) are getting 3 more of these suvs.

  • Very Powerful - 2004 Honda Pilot

Very powerful car requires less fuel. With 250HP and 5 speed AT, this car runs very fast and so I sometimes forget this is SUV. Inside is big and quiet.

After owning the Ford Explorer for 8 years, I was delighted with the Honda Pilot. The contrast between the two is dramatic. On every measure of quality and enjoyment, the Pilot overwhelms the Explorer.

I went from several Camrys and an Accord to this SUV. It was this vs. the Highlander and I thought this was a superior vehicle. I am not a car person but I LOVE my Pilot, I cant say enough good things about it. I took 7 adults to a baseball game in it and had plenty of room for everyone.

  • Serious transmission trouble. - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

Our family purchased a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite based on Hondas good reputation and experience weve had with other Honda vehicles. Unfortunately the 2016 Honda Pilot Elite, which comes with the 9 speed transmission, has serious transmission problems . We travel a lot and after owning the vehicle for 1 1/2 years already have 69 thousand miles on our Honda Pilot Elite. Problems with the transmission started at 53 thousand miles while driving on the highway at which time the vehicles transmission went out unable to shift out of the gear it was in. Multiple display warning lights came on causing us to drop the car off at a Honda dealership out of town while on vacation. The dealership recognized the transmission issue which reset itself after the car was parked in their shop for several hours. Diagnostic testing failed to reveal any defects. After picking up our vehicle which appeared to be functioning normally, the same problems started againg at 69 thousand miles. After bringing our vehicle in to the local Honda dealership additional tests were done. The transmission problem was again recognized by the Honda Service department, however no diagnosis was able to be made after updating software, changing transmission fluid and consulting directly with Honda Corporate. We were lead to deal with Honda Corporate regarding our transmission issue as the vehicles transmission was now no longer under warranty (ending at 60 thousand miles). Although the initial transmission issue occurred at 53 thousand miles Honda has refused to cover the cost of our transmission. The customer service at Honda Corporate was not what we expected from a reputable company such as Honda. Our Honda has been in the shop for 1 1/2 weeks now without having any work done on it since Honda will not agree to cover our transmission problem. Since the Honda dealership was unable to diagnose the transmission problem while under warranty, they felt justified in passing the bill to us, the Honda customer. We followed the Honda maintenance schedule and brought the vehicle in when the service lights presented themselves on our display. It is apparently recommended that the Honda Pilot undergo transmission fluid changes every 30 thousand miles costing approximately $250 each service. Our Honda Pilot was at the Honda dealership at 32K and 45K miles and thereafter, it was never recommended to us to change the transmission fluid. Honda Corporate appeared to use this information against us to hold us responsible to pay for the failed transmission. A district manager from Honda made a decision that wed be responsible for $750 of the repair while Honda would cover the rest of the $6200 transmission. Although better than paying for a new transmission, this problem occurred while under warranty and Honda is not living up to their promise or reputation. The district manager who is responsible for deciding how much the Honda customer is responsible for paying apparently will not speak directly to the Honda customer, interesting to us. We have already incurred the cost of a rental car while on vacation due to this problem and will be without our Honda Pilot for at least 2 1/2 weeks for the transmission repair not including the number of hours dealing with various customer service representatives getting to the point we are at now waiting for our transmission repair. We are disappointed with Hondas handling of our transmission problem which will inevitably affect many more Honda owners in the future as most drivers of these vehicles have yet to place as many miles on the 2016 Honda Pilot as we have.

  • Pliot, best bang for the buck - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

The 2005 Honda pliot is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have the exl with navagation. It has power, it really drives like a car. I am trading up from a 2002 isuzu trooper. I love everything about the pilot, its a great car!

  • Most wonderful vehicle Ive ever owned! - 2006 Honda Pilot
    By -

We did a ton of research, over three months worth, before buying our Pilot. I loved it from the start for the well-designed interior, eight passenger seating (seven comfortably!) and the fact that its not huge like the other three-row SUVs. The middle console is wonderful with lots of storage, the seats are easy to position (excellent feature on moving the middle row for more leg room in the back). Lots of head & leg room too. And its a blast to drive. Our two girls love it! Its definitely more fun for all of us than the caravan we traded in. This is also my first Honda, and Im looking forward to many wonderful years together with the reliability ratings.

  • Handsome Honda - 2004 Honda Pilot

My pilot came with a bubbled windshield with a ton of bubbles in the sunscreen part of the windshield. Aside from that (and it was repaired under warranty) it has been a great rig. I tow a 2400 pound hardside tent trailer with it and it acts like it barely knows the trailer is there. The brakes are really strong 4 wheel disks. Corners really well. My back hurt all the time in my old car and now, I can drive for hours with no problem. Great car on the freeway with all wheel drive for in the snow.

  • The Best - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

I enjoy the room that the pilot offers and it can seat 8 easily. I wish the towing capacity were a little better but the 2005 model has come along way. There is more horespower as well as a sunroof. I would recomend this vehicle to everyone.

  • Almost Perfect - 2003 Honda Pilot

It looks perfect so far. I think it is the best SUV in it is class. I am so happy that I purchesed it. It tooke me 2 months of thinking and compairing with the Toyota Highlander before I decided that it is better for a family man.
