Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • A Good Choice - 2004 Honda Pilot

Having done a lot of research I decided that the Pilot EX model was the best overall value for the money. It rides nice, has excellent pickup and a boatload of room. My kids love it and as far as reliability or resale value it kicks the pants off of the Trailblazer or the Highlander. If youre not sure, I recommend you drive one and then shop around to get what you really want, a good reliable suv that you can be proud you bought. I am.

  • One of the best car investments - 2004 Honda Pilot

Its a great SUV. Excelent on gas compared to most cars these days - better than my 2000 Volvo S40 - and that was with a 4 cyclinder engine! Stable, good ride position, basic quality features. Not too fancy - its the best Functioning SUV youll ever own.

The only problems we have had with the car:1. mileage has been lower than advertized (18-21mpg) 2. The recalled water pump (never really caused a problem, but it was recalled 3. The recalled transmission (again no probs just the recall)

  • Decent suv - 2006 Honda Pilot

I purchased a pilot recently and like the car. I think this is the best value of any midsize suv on the market. It is reasonably roomy with 8 people and drives verry smooth. If you are a person seeking a roomy suv, with comfort, fuel economy, size, and logic, this is the way to go.

  • On the road..... - 2003 Honda Pilot

Only minor glitch was some chrome plating peeling on the inside of the drivers door--promptly fixed by dealer under warranty. Car is excellent in all aspects but one....with the roof rack and cross bars, there is an annoying road whistle at highway speeds. This should be redesigned.

Bought new and have put on 33000 miles in 18 mos. Only problem was needed battery replaced due to defect under warranty. My wife loves it and tells everyone. Tight turning radius, rides like a car. Excellent family car.

I upgraded from the CRV because it didnt quite have enough room or capability to take a family of four+ on vacation, or even on a long weekend, easily. The Pilot has that capability and much more. It is an excellent cross- country cruiser but also fine around town for hauling kids or just stuff. It is not an ideal commuter but its tight turn radius, compliant suspension, good sightlines and medium size makes it a very tolerable in traffic and city parking garages. It can carry more people and stuff than the Odyssey and get just as good gas mileage as any mimivan. Its got getupandgo! It is never phased by any weather its seen. The navsystem is really good.

  • for a SUV w/ 3rd row seats, the best - 2004 Honda Pilot
    By -

we needed a 3rd row of seats... and after evaluating all of them from the volvo xc90 to the mercedes ML, the honda was definitely the best bang for the buck deal. but, even w/out considering costs, it still came out ahead b/c the 3rd row was the most functional.
