This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • PA IN A PILOT - 2005 Honda Pilot

We traded our 2001 Odyessy for a 2005 Black Pilot. We are sure glad we did, we didnt realize how much we like being a little higher compared to our van, and our CR-V. Our new pilot is very quick when accelerating onto freeways. The gas mileage could possibly be better for being a mianly front wheel drive suv(glad it has low range). The interior is a huge improvement over our vans, and is easier to see out back. Our Pilot is great in allweather and we are enjoying it very much so far in the winter. THIS CAR ROCKS!

  • Very good vehicle - 2005 Honda Pilot

This vehicle was a replacement for a Grand Caravan and although we lost some interior space, it is a very versatile, smooth, and comfortable vehicle. We recently took a 12 hour trip and it was very comfortable. I really like the was this bigger vehicle handles, it has good power, and I like the features it has. Im glad Honda didnt succom to the employee pricing gimmick which would have made all of ours worth less. My only complaints would be its bland styling, and somewhat weak radio. Im also not a fan of the cruise control button, but this is minor. It drives/handles well, gets decent mileage for a big SUV, has good power, is very versitle, and comfortable - everything you need.

Overall excellent, this is my first Honda purchased after reviewing serveral web sites and looking at four other SUVs. Honda won out based on overall features and price.

  • Great Choice - 2005 Honda Pilot

The Honda Pilot was a great choice for my family. It has seating for 8 for those occasions when you have a big group to haul around and just a little stuff. The rest of the time it has a ton of storage space for luggage, toys, groceries, or whatever you need to have in the car along with 5 people. The back seat (2nd row) is wide enough for 2 kids in car seats plus an adult to sit between them. Try that in an Accord or any other mid-size sedan. Or even in a Highlander. Good luck squeezing in. Thats not a problem in a Pilot. We have averaged 18 MPG overall. Usually 16-17 around town, 20-22 on the highway.

  • Not impressed but keeping it real - 2005 Honda Pilot

Purchased an 05 ex cloth 12/05 immediatly began hearing a buzz or rattle coming from the "b" pillar both sides of vehicle just above the front seat belt pivot anchors. Service department, Honda rep and design engineer say it is an "Inherent characteristic of the door seal design" and they can not fix it. They will not buy back the vehicle, so I get to live with a "Buzz" in my ears. @ 310 mi have a rattle from front passenger dash @ the airbag. My mileage is 14.7 mixed driving. Radio reception & sound quality is marginal. Size and seating flexability are near ideal. The engine and tranny work together well. The steering is vague with too much on center play. Honda should be better for $30k

  • Know what you want - 2005 Honda Pilot

Just purchased a Honda Pilot recently. The interior lacks the creature comforts that Toyota gives you - like a front passenger seat that is electric. We like the Pilot vs. Toyota Highlander because it is a bit larger and the 3rd seat can actually seat a person. I still like my Toyota Sequoia better - go with it if you want a smooth ride and dont mind paying big bucks for gas. The DVD entertainment system on the Pilot is great for the kids though.

  • great ride - 2005 Honda Pilot

The more I drive my Pilot, the more I like it. Putting in almost 80 mi. daily on Houston highways, I always feel safe, sheltered, and am never exhausted by sometimes stop-and-go traffic. When the roads open up, the Pilot just cruises....

  • Great big car for the money. - 2005 Honda Pilot

Probably the best quality and package for the price. Been driving the car for about a year and the Pilot offers excellent practicality along with flawless build quality. Good power, although dont expect great fuel economy, it is an SUV after all. Tailgate takes some muscle to close and the styling is rather bland which was somewhat improved in the 06 model. A great car if your fighting the need to buy a minivan and dont want the truck feel of some of the domestic offroaders.

  • Unknown characteristics - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Before you buy a Pilot, understand that it has a lot of “characteristics” that develop later in life. A shaking in the front end that occurs over 65. As 65 is the posted speed limit for the majority of this area, the local Honda dealer does not feel compelled to address the issue. The sloshing noise in the gas tank when it’s full. Honda knows about the issue, but as it only occurs when the tank is full, they see it as characteristic. The brakes make a terrible noise when the ABS kicks in and the front wheels tend to lock-up in a panic stop. This is partially due to the location of the ABS unit and “glazing” of the rotors. It tends to hesitate when cornering at low speeds.
