Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Excellent and smooth drive. Very good fuel efficiency on highway with the Variable cylinder management system. Smooth turns with Vehicle Stability Assist. I feel safe when driving with 8 air bags and ABS brakes. Low maintenance cost with maintenance minder system so you will only do maintenance when it ask for it. Lot of cargo space with all the seats fold down.

  • Inconsistent manufacturing quality - 2004 Honda Pilot

After looking at other peoples reviews it appears that Hondas quality control is on this vehicle is poor. Overall the Pilot has nice features and is a practical SUV. But while others have raved about the power and the mileage, my Pilot has not excelled on either. When it was brand new it had good power and got about 19 mpg (mixed city/hwy) but at about 25,000 miles it started having problems with both. Mileage is now 15- 16mpg and power is poor. It sputters and loses speed at times on a level hwy. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times, and the Honda district service rep has looked at it. According to them everything is "normal". I have owned many Hondas, but this may be my last.

Easy to drive, feels and looks good. Pretty good on fuel. Lots of compartments and cup holders for every little thing. Nice sounding stereo/CD system and having the controls on the steering wheel is great Its fun to drive, not to big. Spacious second and third row. Im lovin it!!

  • Best in class.... - 2005 Honda Pilot

I absolutely love my Pilot. My prior vehicle was an Accord, so I had a good idea what I was getting into with this Honda. After doing my research, and a couple test drives, I found the Pilot, not to be to cliche, while not the leader in most catagories, it did very well in all of them. I suprisingly found that it doesnt feel as big as it seems. To look at it, youll think youll be driving a land yacht, but after a few miles, it feels more like standard car, just higher.

  • Good Choice - 2006 Honda Pilot

This car really offers a lot of content and features for the price. I love the ability to seat 8 people, even if the back seat is a little tight. I am very surprised at how much I enjoy this car and highly recommend it for someone that needs to seat more than 5 and does not want a minivan. The gas mileage around town is better than my Pathfinder. The driving decision for buying the Honda was based on the massive amount of space it provided, plus the Honda reputation for quality.

  • Do not buy first year model - 2003 Honda Pilot

I purchased this vehicle new. I have 42,000 miles on vehicle. Not typical Honda quality. Warranty items replaced recalled: new vent, new console top, transmission oil cooler kit recal, and finally EGR valve recall. The VTM4 light and Engine service light has been coming on for the last 1000 miles. I have had it to the dealer 4 to 5 different times and it is still not fixed. The last thing the replaced was the VTM4 control module $800 dollars and it did not fix it. This has been very frustrating and you would not expect this from a Honda product that cost $32,000 new. Very disappointing.

We were shopping for a CR-V, there were none to be found, so we got the Pilot instead, and we absolutely love it!
