This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • Great....but the Buzzing will kill me! - 2005 Honda Pilot

My wife and I are fairly happy with our Pilot. We have 25k miles on it now and still doing well. Great get up and go and good simple luxury items. My only problem is the buzzing that seems to come from the entire dash no matter which road Im on. I am going to have a 2nd dealer look at it, but no improvement so far. I push on the plastic dash in many different areas and it stops for 30 seconds or so... then it starts right back up. Only option is to open the windows or turn up the stereo! I have a 1996 Corolla with 206k miles on it and still no buzzing!

  • 15K review, not so perfect - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

I have owned it for about 11 month and put it 15K miles. Averaged 14mpg city, 20-22mpg highway @75-85mph. The seat is not comfortable. I can not find a configuration that fully support my back. Not a problem for short trips, but I take long trips often and I always have back pain and sour neck after driving 2 hours. Engine is pretty quiet, but wind noise and road noise become annoying @ 80mph. More sound dumpening material should be used. Both my wife (not a good driver) and I find it easier to drive than corolla and accord. The rear backup sensor is well worth the money.

  • My Pilot - 2005 Honda Pilot

I traded in a 8 year old Explorer for the Pilot. It was the only SUV in this class I liked better than Explorer and I am very happy with it. A smooth, comfortable ride with better gas mileage than most SUVs. It lives up to the Honda name.

  • Definitely not a highway car - 2005 Honda Pilot

The vehicle is an in-town performer. Quick and agile, good boat ramp puller, and plenty of family features. However, extreme road noise on the highway and lousy front brake rotor design makes for a disappointing product. If the load is light and the speeds are low, this is a good neighborhood vehicle. But a road warrior, it is not.

  • Dream Mobile - 2005 Honda Pilot

Our Pilot has been a dream machine. It drives more like a car than SUV, corners beautifully and drives smoothly. It is incredible in slush, rain and snow, firmly gripping the road. Its very roomy inside and because the floor is flat, the dog no longer insists on lying on the seats, and stays comfortably on the floor, affording us even more space. The only drawback is the gearshift midway back on the steering column. Nothings perfect, but this comes close!

  • 2004 HONDA PILOT - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

MY HONDA PILOT IS A GREAT VEHICLE. DURING THE HURRICANES IN FL I USED MY AWD PILOT TO PULL A TREE THAT HAD FALLEN OVER FROM THE WINDS BACK UP STRAIGHT AGAIN. THE ONLY NEGATIVE, WHICH IS A BIG ONE, IS THE FACT THAT I BOUGHT MY PILOT IN JAN 2004 AND THE GPS MAPPING DID NOT HAVE STREETS AND BUILDINGS (NEW COURTHOUSE) IN THE GPS. THESE STREETS AND THE COURTHOUSE ARE OVER THREE YEARS OLD!! HONDA SAID I COULD PURCHASE A NEW DVD FOR APPROX. $175 TO UPGRADE MY ALREADY POST DATED SYSTEM........NOT A GOOD PR MOVE IN MY OPINION.

  • 05 Pilot EXL - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Pilot EXL fit my requirement as AWD SUV. The space is good and fold down seat is convenient. There is no crossbar by default is a surprise. I have to buy crossbar in addition to ski rack. The gas mileage is also so- so. Well, it is really enjoy to drive it on snow.

  • Like it, but Disapointed - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

We love the interior room and body style of our Pilot. We arnt happy with the placement and style of the controls, namely the gear shift leaver / wiper lever, igniton key placement- have to look for it, tilt wheel lever- clumsy- make it spring loaded, guage cluster visibilty- with wheel in driving position cant see spedo numbers. Creature features - no auto door lock, NO compass?? front seat bottoms are a little short for taller folks. DONT like the trans, notable downshift, sometimes stays in alower gear than should- causing higher RPM. OUR REAL disapointment is FUEL MILEAGE - 13-14 city 17-18 Hwy. even driving easy its terriable. We sold our Expedition because it got 12 & 16, consistently

  • My opinion! - 2005 Honda Pilot

Needs a more distinct look from the CR-V.

  • Honda SUV is fun to drive - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Lots of fun to drive. Good response, easy to park. A little tight for a big guy to get into and our of the driver seat. Cruise on off switch is out of the way and I had to take my eyes off the road to find it. Drivers seat could use better lumbar support. I would like more hidden storage.
