Most everything is OK with the Pilot with the exception of the transmission. I would strongly recommend that anyone buying a Pilot to plan on trading the Pilot before the power train warranty runs out. If not, you will be facing a $2500 fix. Pilot had a transmission recall but it was not a very good fix. Also radio and CD player are poor quality. Had to replace.

This is a great SUV. Very dependable and well built. Get 26 mpg on highway. Roomy and comfortable.

  • ONE MAJOR FLAW: SEAT COMFORT - 2003 Honda Pilot

First: Mankato Honda was great to work with. Seat comfort is a serious problem. Never had a problem with my Civic or Accord on any length trip. Pilot is a totally different story. Lower back pain develops after about 20 minutes. I took my family on a 2 hour trip. I had said nothing about my discomfort to my kids because they were so excited about the new Pilot. My 13 year old got out, arched his back, and said to his brother, "My back is killing me."

We have been in our SageBrush Pearl EXL- RES for about 2 months now and I can honestly say that I like it more now than I did when we brought it home. Sure, there are a few things that could be different. Overall, it is the best vehicle I have owned. Only time will tell if the reliability to stay solid. I am betting on Honda and I have rarely been dissapointed in the past. The car gets great gas mileage (in comparison to other SUVs) looks stylish but I am comparing it to my Chevy Blazer. The Rear Entertainment System has exceeded my expectations - it is VERY versatile. I am quite happy with this choice.

After one year ownership no problems at all. Not even minor. Safe, rides great, plenty of power and room for kids, parents and grandparents.

If youre looking for a vehicle that is versitale, reliable and very practicle than the Honda Pilot is what you are looking for. I recently owned a Chevrolet Tahoe and had a bad experience with that vehicle. I then purchased the Pilot. It is ultimatley comparably if not better in so many ways. The cargo is roomier than that of a Tahoe or an Expedition. And the gas mileage is better than the other suvs. It sure makes a difference if your used to filling up at the pumps and spending 40 dollars than to spend 25 to fill up!

  • Finally! - 2003 Honda Pilot

Been waiting years for Honda to come out with an larger SUV to call their own and they did not disappoint. Handles like a car. Smooth ride & tight turning radius. Honda quality. Could use more power, but has pretty good pickup anyway. Poor acoustics for music. Terrible negotiating experience (dealer really jerked us around & played their usual games when I made it clear that I was not blind to their tactics). Dealer also tried to charge me $196 to slap on $170 crossbars (EX) over the existing crossrails. Ridiculous.

Warning: Do not but Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny. My tranny went out after warranty went out. Even dealer told me that there was a problem with the Pilot and the V6 with auto tranny. A $2500 fix for me. I am a disabled veteran and live on a fixed income. Bought Pilot expecting to get about 250,000 miles out of it. What a joke. If you buy, plan on trading before power train warranty runs out. Do not end up with the same problem that I did. Warning. Do not buy Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny.
