Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

We are very satisfied with our Pilot. It is a solid vehicle, the gas mileage is good. We recently took 5 adults on a trip with luggage and were all comfortable.

Very comfortable to drive and ride in, mother-in-law passenger rating was - very comfortable. Surprising gas mileage when I followed the Honda Owners Manual driving instructions, 20 mpg city - 24 mpg highway. My highway driving speeds are 65 - 75 mph.

  • Not what I expected - 2003 Honda Pilot

My wife and I just finished reviewing / test driving just about everything that you would look at when comparing mid- sized SUVs before deciding on either the Pilot or the Highlander. The Highlander outhandled the Pilot by a slight margin, but where the Highlander failed miserably (driver visibility, ergonomics, seating comfort, styling (God-awefull cheap looking fake wood in the Limitted model)), the Pilot excelled. And with performance margins virtually unnoticable between the two, its an easy choice to go with the Pilots great interior vs. the Highlanders cheap Vitara-esque interior and comfort.

  • Major Transmission Issues - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

This is my third Honda Pilot and Im very disappointed in the quality when it comes to its performance. The transmission is all over the place! I noticed when the car is cold it has problems shifting gears for the first few minutes at various speeds. The freakiest thing is when youre driving downhill and hit your brakes the car lunges forward jerking everyone in the car. This can be reproduced almost every single time. Very noticeable lag time in acceleration between 20-40 miles an hour seems to try and find the correct gear. Called my Honda dealer and they say theyre unaware of these issues (of course) but said maybe they would have a software update that can fix it in the future. Thank God for the internet --glad to hear Im not the only one experiencing these same exact issues. Opening a report with Honda to submit my complaint and hopefully speed up the software update.

  • Cant Go Wrong with a Pilot! - 2003 Honda Pilot

I purchased my Pilot in Jan of 2006, and its the best decision Ive made. Prior to purchasing, I researched every SUV out there, and test drove a few. This vehicle drives and rides like a luxury car! It doesnt feel like youre driving an 8-passenger vehicle, has more than sufficient power, very roomy in front and middle rows for large adults, great cargo space, and looks quite stylish. I have the EX-L model loaded with everything. Kids LOVE the DVD player. I love that they can listen with wireless headphones and I can play my CD or Radio! Leather seats remain beautiful and are easy to clean up! Not a single hint of mechanical problems! Drives great--everyday!

  • Best family mid size suv - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

7 adults can be seated comfortably, superior handling on freeways and village roads too, city 20/21 mpg, highway 26.1 mpg. Best inclass outward visibility, lots of storage space and cup holders, only downside Honda should offer navigation on the available 8" touch screen.

  • Love the Pilot - 2004 Honda Pilot

I bought my 04 EXL-Nav w/ 22K miles in immaculate condition. The ride is very smooth and quiet for an SUV. Ive always been a car guy, but Im very happy with the Pilot. There are a few interior rattles but theyre bearable. I was impressed the first time I punched it getting into traffic - it really moves for a truck that size. I test-drove several mid-size SUVs, but the Pilot outmatched them all in almost every category, and hey - its a Honda!
