This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

I love my Pilot EX w/ Leather & Nav system. It gets better mileage than I thought it would ranging from 22-28 mpg on the freeway. I have driven from the Bay area, CA to Seattle 3 times now and only filled it up 2 times. The nav system never lets me get lost. Been to Tahoe quite a few times & just breezed through the chain requirements w/ the AWD & had no problems. I have had a Civic & Accord in the past so figured Honda would be a good choice for the SUV. SOOOO ROOMY too. I have moved twice only using my Pilot. I packed so much stuff into & on it. Very mechanically reliable too. Owned it since 01/2005. Couldnt be happier. Best automobile I have EVER owned. Would buy again!

I live in Colorado and go to the Mountain all the time. With the Pilot I dont have to worry about the weather. Blizzards, snow drifts are easy for the Pilot. We own a cabin in the mountain and even with 3 foot drifts of snow I can get into the cabin. The Pilot is the only vehicle that can handle my family on trips. My son is 64", My daughter is 60", I am 60" and my wife is 57". Of course the adults sit in the front and there is plenty of leg room for the kids in the back. Gas milage across Nebraska or Kansas is usually 24-25 Miles per gallon, easy to deal with. The Pilot has also been in some pretty hairy situations in the mountain and come out like a rose.

I have always liked my Honda Pilot, but a recent long trip really showed what this car can do. I had a class-3 trailer hitch installed and pulled a 6x12 U-haul trailer full of furniture and household goods from New Orleans to New York City. My Pilot had no trouble pulling this load in the mountains or in the city. It was my first time to pull a trailer, but I felt safe with my Pilot. I was warned to watch the temperature gauge in the mountains, but the needle never wavered off the "normal" level. Going down mountains with that heavy trailer behind me, I put the Pilot in D3 and never had to touch my brakes to keep my speed down. The Pilot really performed well for me on this trip.

We have owned this vehicle since December of 2004. We routinely travel from Detroit Metro area to Appleton WI. The trip is almost 500 miles and I make it on one tank of fuel. Not bad considering I make the trip in 6 hours or less. The vehicle is over 18 months old. It has never had a failure of any sort. It is the most practical vehicle I have ever owned.

I pack everything but the kitchen into my Pilot and then it holds some more. Handles and rides as good as my Accord or Civic Hatchback my commuter car. Much smoother riding than my daughters 4 Runner and takes reg gas. We moved 17 rescued animals, 2 humans and supplies and was hauling a full trailer from California to Arkansas and survived being driven off the road into a ravine by a 4-wheeler. Pilot remained upright in the ravine and we had not a scratch on it or us. Trailer twisted side ways and was a mess but the Pilot stood firm. Other drivers were astounded. We love it!

  • Great Quality - 2005 Honda Pilot

The Pilot was delivered in perfect cosmetic and mechanical condition. No reason to take it back to the dealers service dept! Traded in a Ford Explorer which I liked, but the Honda is much more carlike in its ride and handling. Roomy like a minivan, resposive AWD, powerful engine, absorbs bumps nicely.

  • 05 Pilot EX does the job. - 2005 Honda Pilot

Love the ride, drives better than most cheap cars around. AWD is great, but this baby needs wider tires, and better performing tires. Snow falls less than 9"inches are a breeze. With the big northeaster though, better tires were needed. Im not sure about the fuel economy because Im usually revving highs and driving stop and go a lot. The truck is as reliable as can be. Engine performance is great, wish the tranny was a 6 speed though. Handling is good for a 4400 pound vehicle but bigger tires and rims would help close the gap between SUV and car like handling.

We are very satisfied with our Pilot. It is a solid vehicle, the gas mileage is good. We recently took 5 adults on a trip with luggage and were all comfortable.

Very comfortable to drive and ride in, mother-in-law passenger rating was - very comfortable. Surprising gas mileage when I followed the Honda Owners Manual driving instructions, 20 mpg city - 24 mpg highway. My highway driving speeds are 65 - 75 mph.

  • 4th one and will continue to buy - 2005 Honda Pilot

This is our 4th Honda, and, because of the quality, resale, and reliability, we will continue to buy Hondas.(Our first was an 88,had 380,000 miles, and sold for $1400!)We were going to wait and buy a used Pilot, but the demand was too high, and there were too many people on the waiting list. We just couldnt resist and bought our 2004.We put alot of miles on our cars because of family living far away, keep our cars, and we dont try to keep up with the Joneses. Our Pilot has made driving very enjoyable and makes us feel very safe on the road. Our first grandson will be born next week, and I feel great about his safety with us! Roomy, efficient, safe, reliable, attractive--Id love to get another!
