Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Please stay away from this car. Honda pilots are having a major water leak and the dealer has not idea how to fix it.

Great car. Honda has a solid reputation. This is my second Honda. Bought the Accord years back and thought it was time to return.

I adore this car. I traded in my Volvo wagon for it and would never look back. The main bone I need to pick is the difficulty in setting up the DVDs to play from the front seat- I need to climb into the back seat to use the menu feature and that is a major PITA. ;)

Have had the car for nearly 5 mos. Its incredible. Great handling...like a car but with features of an SUV. Lots of leg and head room. Comfortable on the long hauls, too. And, its peppy! Great pick up when Im merging onto the highway.

I wanted a vehicle that would comfortably seat 4 adults and still have room for 4 golfbags and luggage for a long weekend. The Pilot meets all my needs. Golfbags fit easily, even between the wheel wells. The ride is very comfortable. Owned it just 3 days so far. I do have a defect in the radio LCD display. If you buy one, make sure you look at the radio with your sunglasses on. There is a defect in a polarization layer on some radio displays. Other than the radio display, its perfect.

We test drove the 2017 EX-L 4WD, but ended up buying the 2WD instead. There was no noticeable difference. And, given the area we live in, wed rather save the money.

  • Comfortable and a workhorse - 2005 Honda Pilot

I have always liked my Honda Pilot, but a recent long trip really showed what this car can do. I had a class-3 trailer hitch installed and pulled a 6x12 U-haul trailer full of furniture and household goods from New Orleans to New York City. My Pilot had no trouble pulling this load in the mountains or in the city. It was my first time to pull a trailer, but I felt safe with my Pilot. I was warned to watch the temperature gauge in the mountains, but the needle never wavered off the "normal" level. Going down mountains with that heavy trailer behind me, I put the Pilot in D3 and never had to touch my brakes to keep my speed down. The Pilot really performed well for me on this trip.

We have owned this vehicle since December of 2004. We routinely travel from Detroit Metro area to Appleton WI. The trip is almost 500 miles and I make it on one tank of fuel. Not bad considering I make the trip in 6 hours or less. The vehicle is over 18 months old. It has never had a failure of any sort. It is the most practical vehicle I have ever owned.

  • Great SUV - 2003 Honda Pilot

I have never been happier with any auto purchase, than with the Pilot. Its just awesome, loads of room, and extremely reliable. In the 3 years I have owned it, I have only serviced it 5 times (every 7,500 miles). The only thing that would ever make me get a different vehicle, would be if they made the Pilot with some kind of hybrid engine.

  • Fun & reasonably inexpensive to operate - 2005 Honda Pilot

I pack everything but the kitchen into my Pilot and then it holds some more. Handles and rides as good as my Accord or Civic Hatchback my commuter car. Much smoother riding than my daughters 4 Runner and takes reg gas. We moved 17 rescued animals, 2 humans and supplies and was hauling a full trailer from California to Arkansas and survived being driven off the road into a ravine by a 4-wheeler. Pilot remained upright in the ravine and we had not a scratch on it or us. Trailer twisted side ways and was a mess but the Pilot stood firm. Other drivers were astounded. We love it!
