This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • One of the Best - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

This has been one one the best vehicles I have ever owned( strike that.... It is THE best) I traded in my Lexus RX300 because I needed a larger vehicle ( my son made the family number 5 and the Lexus just became too small). I was kind of second guessing myself at the beginning thinking I should have stayed with another, larger Lexus( but the price was astronomical for the Lexus 450) so I finally decided on the Honda Pilot. Man, after owning this car for a year and a half, this was only a lease but at the end of this lease option I am definitely keeping this car in the family. Comfort, size, safety and driving stability all makes this car a must have.

  • Gotta Love It - 2005 Honda Pilot

The week after buying our new Pilot, we had a 24" snowfall. It took several hours for the plows to get the roads open, but our new Pilot handled everything we threw at it without any fuss. I was very impressed with its ability to handle all that snow and icey roads without any kind of slippage. We couldnt ever tell when the power engaged the rest of the wheels. The impecable build of this vehicle is almost perfection. It feels and sounds solid when you close the doors and drive/ride in it. I have heard people say they dont get the kind of mileage they expected, but we get 20mpg up & down a 7% grade every day going 42 miles to work and just last weekend got 22.8mpg on a 300 mile trip.

  • Good - except for NAV system - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Purchased Fall 2004- Do not waste money on the Nav system. Mine was over 2 years out of date at the time of purchase. Contacted Honda America and received the answer that the DVD was the most current at the time my vehicle was delivered. I drive every day on roads that have been complete for over 2 years that do not even show on the NAV. Extremely disappointed with this response from Honda.

  • Just plain HAPPY - 2005 Honda Pilot

Solid as a rock SUV, thought the pick- up it has is great with the 4speed. Standard features and quality are just great.

  • Love my 05 Pilot - 2005 Honda Pilot

Shopped for an SUV to replace a Jeep GC. Looked at Merc Mountaineer and Honda Pilot EX-L. Purchase price was within a few hundered of each other. No comparison, Honda won hands down. Excellent comfort and ride. Third seat works well for small adults/children. Feels large inside. Stereo is great along with sunroof. Drives great in N.E. snowstorms. I am a little disapointed with several squeaks/rattles that have come up during 2,100 miles of ownership. Have trailer tow package and will tow 3,500 lbs this summer.

  • best I have owned - 2005 Honda Pilot

I traded my 2003 Ford Expedition at a significant loss to get into this vehicle. We have taked several long trips as a family (with 2 teenagers). Everyone in the family is thrilled with this vehicle. Mileage averages 21/mpg which is excellent - I have owned a Hummer and a Suburban. Handling, acceleration are also excellent.

  • Roof rack Disappointing - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

This is an SUV and still drives like one. The suspension seems a bit soft in corners with too much sway. We ordered our Pilot with the cross bars, ski rack and privacy cover for a total of about $500 extra. Big mistake. The assembly is poorly designed and time consuming to install and remove. Both the ski rack ( which only fits two sets of downhill skis instead of the four advertised) and the cross bars create annoying whistling sounds above 45 miles per hour. Instead check out Yakima or Thule for a far better system at less cost. The privacy cover is a pain and will never leave the garage until the car is sold.

  • Great GSW (glorified station wagon) - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Needed a replacement for my aging minivan and had almost settled for a midsize sedan, but a stop at the Honda dealer changed that. The Pilot drives like an upscale sedan and has plenty of room when you need it. Seating is very flexible and comfortable, too. Agree with other owners about the windshield wiper stalk getting in the way of the odd gear shifter, but after a week or so learned to get used to it. Very comfortable highway cruiser and fun on the backroads, too. Great power train..very refined. Looking forward to extended trips in it this summer! Gas mileage is a minor concern, but if you drive a GSW, it isnt a priority.

  • Great SUV however BEWARE of FUEL COSTS - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

I love my 2004 Honda Pilot EXL. I am a female driver and I feel extremely comfortable in this car. The third row is great to have and overall the car is very roomy. My son loves the DVD player and its great for adults in the back seat as well. However, fuel costs will run you $30-50 per week if you are driving around the city daily. It adds up!!! I wish there were a hybrid Honda Pilot.

  • Very Satisfied - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Was all set to buy a new AWD Sienna because we were very satisfied with our 2000 which had 100K trouble free miles. Before we purchased we decided to go to the Honda dealer to look at an Odyssey. Liked the Odyssey, but living in Minnesota really wanted awd also. I knew about the Pilot, but the exterior appearance never did anything for me. Our sales person encouraged us to take it for a drive and just fell in love with it. Plenty of room for our two boys and the visibility is great. Power delivery is extremely smooth and powerful. Seamless shifting from the 5 speed auto. We are very satisfied with the ride and handling. Bottom line...if we were to do it again wed still buy the Pilot.
