Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • exactly what I wanted in an SUV - 2003 Honda Pilot

Looking for a bigger vehicle for past 8 months. Waited to see what Pilot was like. The final choice came down to Highlander, Odyssey and Pilot. Highlander was quickly eliminated. There was a lot of going back and forth between Pilot and Odyssey. I think we made a good decision.

I have only had my new Pilot for 2 weeks but love it so far. The handling and motor is very good for an SUV. I am still learning all the new gadgets but really like the lane assist feature. Wish there was a CD player, but knew it wasnt there when I purchased it. Sound system is good not great. The only real complaint I have is the arm rest ergonomics for the drivers seat. The adjustment for the right arm of the drivers seat is poor, otherwise the seats are very comfortable for trips. Overall great vehicle and would purchase it again. Plus a shout-out to the team at Rivertown Honda - Great to deal with again

  • Old GPS DVD - 2010 Honda Pilot

We love this car. Its fun to drive, feels very solid on the highway. The only problem we encountered is we noticed that the GPS system didnt have a toll road that had been open for almost 2 years on its map. When we checked the DVD driving the system it was the 2008 DVD....in a 2010 car! Not good.

  • Made the right choice - 2006 Honda Pilot

After 11 months and 18,000 miles we love the Pilot more than when we bought it. We have three boys and we wanted something wide for long trips but not as long or high as a Sequoia. The Pilot was a perfect fit. Its well designed. The third row is very useful for the 8-11 year olds we always have tagging along. My wife loves driving it.It has great pick up for us (were used to under powered SUVs). Gas mileage is a little disappointing but it is a heavy vehicle. We get about 18 mpg in town and 20 mpg at 73-75 mph.

This vehicle is very smooth at the campsite, in the city or on the freeway. Excellent vision front and rear with no blind spots. Interior is very well done with ample storage space. We took five people and all the gear up to Savory Island with no problems, however next time we will purchase a Thule to put on top.

We bought our Pilot new and have been extremely satisfied with it. It rides very smoothly and is very comfortable on long trips. Our maintenance costs have been minimal. I definitely intend to buy another Pilot.

Having previously owned 4 large SUVs (2 Jeep Wagoneers & 2 GMC Yukons) we were looking for something that offered the same or similar capabilities, ie., trailering for a boat/trailer (approximately 3000 lbs), seating for 7 or 8, driving comfort and all weather driving capabilities. Additionally, I was looking to improve on gas mileage. The Pilot has not dissapointed us in any way. Its size and maneuverability is an added plus. My wife wouldnt drive the Yukons because of their size but loves driving the Pilot. My only criticism is the annoying "clicking" of/at the rear brakes when under way after reversing direction or releasing the parking brakes.

  • Pilot . . . good choice! - 2007 Honda Pilot

First SUV and what a winner. Wanted to go cheaper and needed cargo space, so I just went with the FWD. Ive had it for 2 months. Fun to drive. Step on the gas and you are flying, if need to. A little wider in the garage than I am used to. Im reading all these reviews on the poor mileage and my ride to work, with mixed stop and go and some highway, Im getting 20 MPG. Doesnt like the road trips with with higher speeds. Only 23 MPG, even with that ECO feature that shuts down three cylinders. Good looking vehicle.

  • Horrible Gas Milage - 2003 Honda Pilot

This is a great family SUV with a lot of safety features. Weve had it for 3 weeks and we love it. It has Exactly the same engine, transmission, chasis, steering and suspension of the more expensive Acura MDX. However I have been keeping track of the gas mileage and it is terrible. We just got, driving in the city 183.4 miles on 16.8 gallons for a MPG average of 10.9. The car only has 403 miles so I am hoping that it takes a few more miles for the engine to break in and gas mileage to improve. We have not driven the car over 55 miles as we were told by the dealership not to exceed 55 mph in the first 700 miles.

  • Transmission leaks - 2003 Honda Pilot
    By -

My brother recently bought a Pilot. After a week he found about a quart of transmission fluid on his garage floor. After taking it back twice, the dealer advised that he may have a porous transmission casing which is causing the transmission fluid to seep out. He is getting his transmission replaced. The dealer has been working hard to please him.
