Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

  • Noisy ErgoNot - 2006 Honda Pilot

I bought a Honda Pilot because of Hondas reputation and my need for an SUV. I traded in a fully-loaded, Ford Explorer Ltd Edition, that was a fun and reliable piece of luxury machinery. I came to realize that the Pilot is incredibly noisy on the highway. Every little creak and creep of the tires, body and plastic is amplified tenfold. Additionally, the egonomics are ErgoNOTmics. The steering wheel blocks the gauges. The steering controls are constantly being activated by my fingers, accidentally, while turning (very annoying and dangerous). The radio controls are backwards and difficult to reach with the seat completely back. The trip odometers are impossible to reset while driving, etc.

Mileage is not great. The ride is comfortable. Feels roomy inside. The sound system is very good. Tested the MDX, this car is the better choice for value.

  • Great for the size - 2005 Honda Pilot

Great on gas and easy to control. Never have to worry about finding a parking space large enough. Has a very good pick up for getting on freeways. Great resale value.

Like most Hondas you have to be very picky to find something not to your liking. I have now owned my Pilot over 3 years and still enjoy driving it. I can do all of the routine maintenance myself thanks to online resources.

  • Best value in mid-size SUV segment - 2007 Honda Pilot

I have owned my Pilot for a few weeks now and have not been disappointed. Gas mileage is acceptable for SUV - getting no worse than previous minivan while providing a very comfortable ride. Compared to 08 Nissan Pathfinder and 07 Saturn Outlook, the Pilot can be purchased for thousands less when comparably equipped while giving the owner a very handsome trade-in value down the road. Vehicle has excellent fit and finish both inside and out.

  • Fog Lights anyone? - 2007 Honda Pilot
    By -

This has been a great vehicle for us. Enough room for our stuff and our dog and still room for the additional family member coming in about 7 months. But look out if you have to replace certain parts. $275 fog light assembly plus 1 hour labor to remove the entire bumper cover because the fog light was hit with a rock. Hopefully insurance will cover, but what if it had just burned out? $400 for a lightbulb? Sad that such a great car has such poor design qualities.

  • Love my pilot - 2007 Honda Pilot

I love my Pilot. I strayed from Honda with my last vehicle being a Toyota. I thought the quality were similar. I was wrong! Owned Hondas since the early 90s and never regretted it once. I feel extremely safe in my Pilot. Quiet ride although it is still a truck. Very little leaning taking corners at higher speeds. Really holds to the road. Extremely roomy and comfortable. If you are trying to decide to buy this vehicle, do it. You wont regret it.

  • Best of Both Worlds - 2003 Honda Pilot

This is an excellent choice for families looking for a mid-size SUV with a huge cargo are when you only need seating for 5, and the advantage of seating for 8 when the need arises. The interior room, features, comfort, and quality and workmanship are excellent. The engine has just the right amount of "get-up-&-go" for the typical family that needs it in city driving. The 17 and 22 gas mileage I think is better than expected for a vehichle of this size with this kind of accelaration.
