This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

  • Too Much for the Money - 2005 Honda Pilot

Just returned from long road trip to Disney and the Pilot made it bearable. DVD is awesome with 1 and 6 yr. old. Gas mileage is okay but performance and room is unbelievable - at least for $33k. I am 61, 220 and I immediately astounded at the amount of lateral room. Arguably the best third rower out there that will fit comfortably in garage without killing you at the pump.

I am a former minivan driver (toyota sienna) and loved my minivan, but wanted AWD. I have three little boys and was worried about switching to an suv, but I absolutely love, love, love, this pilot. My kids fit easily in the three rows, and love the dvd. It drives live a dream and is a beautiful car.

We owned a 2003 and have a 2005 Honda Pilot. We originally bought the 2003 LX because that was all the dealer had. The 2005 EX has more interior refinement re A/C and audio. We love both cars. We upgraded because of the great deal we got from the dealer.

  • Finally got my Pilot! - 2005 Honda Pilot

I have wanted a Pilot since they first came on the market, but I wasnt willing to pay MSRP. I finally bought one in 2005. Overall, I have been very pleased with my Pilot. It is very roomy, even when I have been in the back seat between my two children in their car seats. The pick up when merging onto the interstate has been great. I love the great visibility to see other vehicles around you. So many other SUVs have very limited visibility out the side and rear windows. Only negative I have found is the gas mileage...I get only 14 miles to the gallon in the city.

Car is extremely inviting. Even with 7 passengers in the car, it handles well, is roomy and the rear passengers enjoy the same heat and air conditioning as the front area passengers. Cars cargo area has six hooks, which when used with bungee cords, holds down most transported items nicely. The raising and lowering of the rear row of seats is effortless. Plenty of glass make this car a safe car for viewing the sides and rear oncoming traffic. As good as the MDX at thousands less.

I drive 25000 miles per year. I also trade every 2 years. This is my 2nd Pilot, and I am already planning for my 3rd. I feel safe and really enjoy my vehicle. We are a Honda family. My wife and daughter have Accords, and we would not drive anything else.

  • Very safe suv!!! - 2005 Honda Pilot

Our Honda Pilot saved my wifes life, she recently had a VERY serious freeway crash (hit center devider wall head-on at 65 mph.) and walked away with only a sprained wrist!!! The airbags worked perfectly and the front end crush zone took most of the impact. Our Pilot was a total loss and we will be getting a 2005 soon. We love this SUV!!!

  • It was totalled - 2005 Honda Pilot

The Pilot EX was a total joy to drive until the tire pressure sensor simply has its own mind after 1 yr. But its not the worst. Handling-wise it is OK. In snowy, icy and heavy rain condition, however, I only get 70% control of the car when driving 35 miles per hour. I consistently got overtaken by other cars as I drove on interstate. Different tires, same result. The worst: The vehicle simply lost control when I was avoiding an aggressive pass-on-the-right Subaru. My Pilot skated around on the (dry) interstate a few seconds at 60mph until it rolled over into the embankment and totalled. None of the airbags went off for no explanation. I was lucky to survive it.

  • Best SUV On The Market for the Price - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

No other suv on the market touches the Honda Pilot for the price. With advanced features, build quality and Honda reliability, Honda offers an incredible vehicle for the price. It drives like a dream, gets incredible gas mileage for its size, and the assembly is perfect in every way. Dont pass this one up!
