Model Overview:

Since its launch for the 2003 model year, the Honda Pilot has helped shape the market for crossover SUVs with three rows of seating. Offering V6 power, respectable fuel economy, a comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and seven-to-eight-passenger seating, the Pilot is exactly the kind of vehicle that appeals to growing families who are leery of traditional minivans. Other crossover SUVs might be sportier to drive or more stylish on the inside, but Honda's three-row crossover appeals to your practical side and packs in a lot of functionality.

Choosing a Pilot is straightforward, as Honda packages equipment in a few basic trim levels rather than offering countless options. Regardless of the year, all Honda Pilots give you three useful rows of seating and lots of storage slots, though early models are smaller and aren't quite as accommodating for teenagers in the third row. Cargo capacity has also increased over the years.

Very quiet, strong for a V6, some times it take a delay changing speeds from higher to lower, not so good on fuel economy, but after all my wife and I are Happy with it a lot better than our 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Never again - 2003 Honda Pilot

First Honda. Big mistake. Rattles and squeaks over Western PA roads. Problems starting in cold weather. Rear brakes cause major concern. They get stuck and heat up until they smoke. The rear wheels get so hot from the brakes, you cannot touch them. Seems worse when very cold outside. Seems like the emergecy brake gets stuck on. When they get stuck, brakes cause the car to feel like it is driving over rumble stips. Dealer cannot figure it out after several repair attempts. Claims Honda cannot figure it out and no problems reported by others. Unsafe. Trading it in with disclosure.

We feel safe in this SUV. I was driving 75 mph on the highway and a car swerved into my lane, I had to quikly move and swerve to the left into part of the median. I felt in full control the entire time. It is very roomy. The third seat has little leg room for adults, but is great for the kids. It drives very smooth. The kids have asked me why I shut the car off at lights. I tell them its not off, we just have a really nice truck.

  • Excellent Family SUV - 2005 Honda Pilot

I never thought I would buy an Van much less an SUV but Honda proved me wrong. Their vans and suvs in mho are the best on the market. Thanks for making an SUV that seats 8. Having 5 in our family gives us the ability to go on long trips and have room for everyone and our stuff. Now you have a truck and my husband is actually considering buying it. He never wanted a truck before.

First Honda; now I know why their models are so popular. Good quality build; Honda knows how to incorporate the standard features you need. There are no options save for the DVD and navigation system (watch for dealer add- ons). My dealer had none; it was a good transaction for a good quality family car.

After having owned a Nissan Pathfinder, Dodge Durango as well as a Ford Explorer I have an ample sense of the SUV market and I have found the best. This car brings nothing but driving pleasure. Coupled with outstanding interior and exterior design there is no true competition in its class or any other class...

  • Why buy a Lexus or Acura - 2003 Honda Pilot
    By -

The new Honda Pilot has more luxury and closer to a car-like ride than I expected. The Pilot is larger and wider than the Acura and Lexus SUV. Why pay more when you can get the quality and reliability in the Pilot. The third row seat is actually sized appropriate for use and not just a selling feature. When buying, look for a dealer with at least one years President Award for service and sales. I purchased mine from Thompson Honda in Cartersville, GA and passed two other Honda dealers on the way. The sales personnel and management have character and integrity. This is my second purchase from Thompson.

  • LX Pilot - 2004 Honda Pilot

I love my new Honda Pilot. The only complaint I have for the LX model is that Honda almost goes out of its way to differentiate the LX from EX. The upholstry and wheels for the LX, for example, seem almost purposefully cheap-looking to differentiate the models. Whereas there are plenty of real differentiators that easily sell the EX: sound system, trim, roof bars, etc. Other than small complaints like that, the Pilot is the best SUV on the road.

  • Just perfect for us! - 2007 Honda Pilot
    By -

I did lots of research on this vehicle and its competitors, like the GMC Acadia, Mazda CX-9, Ford Explorer, etc. the Pilot was my best choice overall for interior quality, space and design. Hondas reputation superceeds most makes and reliability is something I am confident about. Well, except for the two loose tranny-to-subframe bolts which the dealer fixed about a month ago. We have three small boys in car seats and they all fit in the 2nd row, or two in the 3rd. with all the accessories, cherry color, $29,500 purchase price (best value for the money), safety features, confort, and reliabity, the Pilot has the whole family very happy. We are averaging 21 m/g city and highway.
