This Year's Model Updates:

Leather-equipped EX models get heated seats and side mirrors as standard equipment. Honda has improved the navigation system this year with a larger database, and all models have improved walk-in accessibility to the third-row seat. All Hondas have a seatbelt reminder system added for 2004.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, feels big behind the wheel.

The seats are stiff which goes along with the ride. The leather is not soft. I have decided that I really do not like the style. I have had electrical problems.

  • Disappointed - 2004 Honda Pilot

Researched and test drove the 2003, but waited for the 2004 in hope of Honda removing any bugs. At 19,000 miles the radiator had to be replaced due to a split seam. At 20,186 the ECT sensor was replaced. At 20,300 the thermostat was replaced. At 22,495 the fuel pump/filter assembly was replaced. At 23,500 the PCM was replaced. The the fuel injectors were replaced during same service visit. The vehicle is in the dealership (not the one purchased from) having the head gaskets replaced. This is the seventh trip to the same dealership to repair the check engine light and VTM- 4 light on. We have the technology to put a man on the moon and safely return him but I cant get my car fixed.

  • Not Impressed with my 1st Honda - 2004 Honda Pilot

There is nothing wrong with a Honda, some people are just not meant to drive one. The style I find very boring. More importantly, the stereo speakers are hard to listen to. The steering wheel controls are nice. It would be nicer if you could go forwards and backwards but you can only go forward with your selections from the steering wheel. So if you like a song on your CD you have to advance through the others to get back to the last song. The other option is to take yours eyes off the road and lean way over to the radio and use the search button. As for fuel mileage, it is about 14-mpg city by my calculations. If you like Honda, you like the Pilot, otherwise keep looking.

  • Over Priced Under Valued Pilot - 2004 Honda Pilot

Vehicle rides like a wagon, stiff and bumpy. When taking turns, feels as though the body is sliding on the axle like a hot wheels car. Terrible gas mileage, but not surprising for an SUV. Youre paying (and dearly) for the Honda name! Vehicle cant hold a candle to their cars.

  • Bad Choice! - 2004 Honda Pilot

I purchased a Honda to get away from some of the problems I had encountered when driving GM vehicles. This car has been to the dealer so much it shoud be kept there!! I cant believe the high ratings this vehicle has received. Does every publication assume because it is a Honda that the quality/design is great? 1). Weld Spash- Front Strut area 2). Loud Popping noises out of rear 3). Air Bag Recall 4). Transmission Recall- Design Problem 5). Rear Differential to be replaced- Currently on Back order cant receive? Common Problem with other Pilots????

  • Pass on Pilot - 2004 Honda Pilot

We bought the Pilot for functionality - max passengers & cargo space. Little did we realize how it handles so poorly on the freeway. Anything over 70mph and it rattles & shakes uncontrollably.

  • DO NOT BUY! - 2004 Honda Pilot
    By -

Do not buy one of these unless you want to spend A LOT of time at the dealerships service waiting room. Brakes sqeak, overheats, air will not work when its hotter than 80 degrees, seats uncomfortable, cd player eats cds. Nothing to reccomend

  • Not for comfort - 2004 Honda Pilot
    By -

The seats are not comfortable at all! The Seat cushions and covers have two heavy gauge metal rods in the middle of the seat that run across the thigh. You can feel them by pressing your fist down on the stitch line in the middle of the seat. These metal rods cut leg circulation. The window lock feature locks out the driver from control of the windows thus making the feature nearly worthless. The game goes like this; the kids lower the window, you lock them out, then you try to raise their window but you are locked out too. Lastly, the cross bars whistle when properly installed. The Pilot is a great SUV that drops the ball on the one yard line.
