Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

  • We Love It - 2004 Honda Element

We have a toddler and two large dogs. Thanks to our dogs and kid this car really gets dirty quick but thankfully it cleans up quick. A damp sponge works great on the interior. WE did have one problem with it this past summer when a full pump sensor failed and the car lost power and the engine light came on (the vehicle had to be towed)but that appears to be a fluke incident. The car has been running great since then. The car has nice pickup on the highway when passing other vehicles. A wonderful car at a reasonable price! We love it.

  • Military Buyers Beware! - 2004 Honda Element

This is a great SUV/Truck/Car, however, if you are in the military, and receive orders to go overseas, Honda does NOT work with you so that you can take your vehicle with you. Its too bad they cant work with the men and women who serve this country. Next time, I am buying a Ford!

I have not had any problems and I hope it continues that way. The only thing that is not good is the gas milleage. I had an accord before the element and it got 300 miles to a tank of gas and the element only gets 230. I thought the element would get better milleage. The sticker said 22 miles a gallon around town and 24 for the freeway. Well, it gets about 17 miles around town and about 19-20 miles on the freeway. I thought it would be better because the dealer said as long as you dont have 4wd it will get around the same milleage as the accord. other than that its a great car.

  • Fuel Capacity - 2003 Honda Element

While driving this vehicle is really fun, and the space inside cant be beat, I am getting only 21 miles to the gallon and despite what the tank capacity is supposed to be, the gas guage reads EMPTY at 260 miles.

  • Finally bought one! - 2004 Honda Element

Ive been looking at Elements since they first hit the lots, and I finally bit and found an almost new 2004 EXS AWD offered by a private seller. So far, so good! You either "get" this vehicle or you dont, and I think I do - folks need to have open minds and accept the Element for what it is, and not wish for Honda to make it into something it isnt meant to be. Need to move people? Get a CR-V, Pilot, or Odyssey. If your list includes intriguing design, transportation for one or two people, the ability to carry lots of stuff "indoors", and reliability and decent fuel economy in a vehicle with a small "footprint" - look no further.

  • Cant get much better than this - 2003 Honda Element

We have only had our Element about a week but already I am in love with it. It is the coolest vehicle out on the market today, and a great value too. I really like the wipeout floor, the dogs can get in with wet feet and I dont have to worry about how the interior will look when I get home. I just had the chance to use the AWD for the first time today with some ice and snow falling and I can say that it works very well. Also a kudos to the heater. We replaced a Neon with this and the heater in that makes it feel as if you lit a match, and thats about it.
