Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

  • Element after 43,000 Miles - 2005 Honda Element

I love my Element except for one nagging problem. My doors have a bad rattle in them that causes everyone who rides in it to think they arent closed completely. I took it to the dealer while it was still under warrenty to have it fixed and they had to replace the door latches. The rattles continued. I will probably take it back again. A coworker has an Element and she says she has the same problem.

  • SC is Sweet! - 2007 Honda Element
    By -

I got my SC in Galaxy Gray. I love it. It has style, and safety. Great handling. I wish it was a bit FASTER!, but for a 4 Cylinder it has pretty good kick off the line. The lower suspension than the other models is cool. but you feel the bumps more than you would like. Buttons are all easy to understand and perfectly placed. Glove box too small, but you get plenty of nooks and crannies to put your stuff at.

  • No MiniVan! - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

Im 34 with a one child, however, I couldnt bring myself to get a mini- van. I wanted something cool, with space to haul things and safe too. I got the 4WD EX Manual - the stick is on the dash - rally style! Its design is defiant - and I love it. It reminds me of the saying "loved or hated - never ignored". The 270W stereo and MP3 jack is finally what sold it to me. The marketing was off on this one. Most 20 somethings cant afford this just out of school. Young parents are going to love it though. Get one - youll love it. If you hate it. I dont care. Cheers from Richmond, VA. Clay

  • H2.5 Reality Check - 2003 Honda Element

Fun to drive, family friendly. We have two children and found the backseat to be very accessable. We are both around 6 feet tall and have plenty of leg room in both the front and the backseat. Sealing feels vaulted. Love the sound system-270 watts. The colors and interior are very durable. Keyless entry and floormats are a must have. It would be nice if passenger side armrest were standard as we are planning to have one added. Overall, no major complaints, we love it and it gets tons of looks! Weve only had it for around 2 weeks and have already been stopped several times by people inquring about purchasing one.

This car has been both fun and extremely reliable to operate. It in well-built, and has needed no repairs or servicing since I acquired it. Our family had previously owned a Honda CRV, and this car is just as well-made as the CRV.

  • From dislike to admiration - 2005 Honda Element
    By -

My wife was due for a new vehicle and really liked the idea of an Element. She test drove one and loved it. I thought it was the ugliest vehicle made since the Gremlin and shuddered at the thought of having to see it in the driveway everyday. As a result, I tried relentlessly to talk her out of it and we test drove 6 other make and models of compact SUV / wagons before I drove the Element. To her credit she looked at the other vehicles with an open mind, asked plenty of questions, but in the end was still focused on the Element. So, it was finally time for me to get over my prejudice and test drive none. Although the appearance is still growing on me it is without a doubt the most functional

  • I love my element!!!!! - 2004 Honda Element

I LOVE MY ELEMENT!!!. i traded in my 2000 Nissan Maxima for a 2004 Honda Element EX AWD MT. I love it. Handles like a car. its really fun to drive. Squeals tires from stop and into second. My parents beg me to let them take it. Seats are very comfy, love the Fiji Blue color. I get a lot of comments on the color even when they dont like the car. Very noticeable wind noise around 55+mph. I am averaging 23 mpg which is awesome. Just think its the size of my friends explorer he gets 17 mpg with the v6... Tons of storage. Love the versatility of the seating, my friends all fit very comfortably. The stock sound system is amazing!!! Better than the bose in my maxima. Best car i have ever owned

  • Our Black Lab Approves - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

A review from a couple 15+ yrs outside the Elements target demographic. This SUV exceeds the great reviews, and expectations my wife and I had. Trading in my 5-speed Acura Integra for this vehicle, I was pleasantly surprised by the car’s peppy performance and road manners. Parallel parking in Boston- NO problem! Very much looking forward to taking the Element on VT ski trips, and humble AWDing ventures on the Cape and islands. Most importantly, our slightly spoiled black lab fully approved of the Element, and how easy it is to cleanout after her swimming adventures to the ocean and Charles River. A FUN car we enjoy driving in the city, or great outdoors!

  • I Luv My Element! - 2006 Honda Element
    By -

I have an hour drive to work on a ridiculous highway. So, my husband and I decided to trade in my 2004 Honda Civic for a bigger and safer car. We chose the 2006 Honda Element in tangerine metallic (bright orange). It was by far the best car purchase weve ever made! Not only is it SO MUCH FUN to drive, but its SUPER roomy, sooooo easy to clean, it has a ton of compartments, and the sound system is great! Were shopping for a car for my husband now and we cant find anything that comes close to the Element for value and price.

  • Windshield concerns - 2005 Honda Element
    By -

The only complaint is that in less than 18 months and more than 30,000 miles of ownership I have experienced THREE windshield cracks from pebbles hitting my windshield. I emphasize pebbles! These were not even what I would classify as small rocks. Two fractures were repairable at $50 each but the third one was a major fracture that could not be repaired and required the windshield be replaced. This has made me seriously consider trading this vehicle in for something else.
