Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.
A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

Function, Fun, Turns Heads! - 2005 Honda Element
By baddawg - May 25 - 8:13 amPurchased EX ltd ed last summer - great function (holds 8ft lumber), very functional and convenient entry rear and front, seating OK, great flexibility. Good driving - sufficient power, Excellent saftey features, many convenience items Std., sound system VG. Suburban (40mph) and highway (60- 70 mph) mileage a bit disappointing, but it is an SUV. Well engineered and built. No regrets, zero initial problems!

04 Element - 2004 Honda Element
By John Heim - March 21 - 10:00 amI was skeptical at first, but I bought the Element anyway. It is a unique looking vehicle as well as a joy to drive. It pulls my 4 wheeler on a trailer as well as my small pontoon boat. I have the 4wd version, this helps to get the boat out of the water. Nevertheless it has plenty of power. My Element has never let me down.

Perfect for my lifestyle...but want something else - 2011 Honda Element

It is the most amazing combination of utility and flexibility I have ever owned.....aside from my 2003 Element. As a serious cyclist, this car is absolutely perfect; I can roll 2 bikes in the back (with rear seats removed, or hinged up on their sides) without taking wheels off, put gear in, and still have room to bring back several grocery bags full of stuff. Ive been able to haul tons of oddly shaped, and occasionally very large, items in the back. LOVE the utility of the car. The car, given that it is a big giant box on wheels, accelerates, corners, and brakes surprisingly well. The turning circle is one of the smallest (making the car supremely maneuverable) that Ive ever been in. The 4-wheel drive is completely unobtrusive and works GREAT in snow and ice.....saved my butt several times. Now, its time for the gripes....which unfortunately are many: the car is NOISY....hard to have a conversation when at highway speeds, gas mileage is around 20 mpg no matter how I drive (Im excited when I get 22 on the highway!) which bugs me greatly for a 4 cylinder car, the seats start out ok, but after about 50k miles get just plain uncomfortable.....and that was with me getting extra foam installed when they were new!, the car develops rattles after 60k, and the ride quality is pretty harsh. I really wish that Acura had done an upmarket version of this car, I GLADLY wouldve paid the price for a quieter, better handling, more comfortable car with some more creature comforts. Instead, Honda just stopped making this truly one of a kind vehicle, and now Im stuck. I cried when someone hit me and totalled the car. What else can I get that even comes close to this incredible combination of attributes that happens to fit my life to a T?

Manual isnt for everyone - 2003 Honda Element
By gertgert - February 3 - 2:00 amIm 5 and I constantly knock my knee on the steering column. Its the type of hit that jolts and stuns you for a second. I also think they need to make the passenger foot area taller. There isnt enough height to comfortably cross your feet on the passanger front unless you scoot the seat way back.

Small Outside? XL Inside - 2005 Honda Element
By Cool Ride - October 14 - 9:13 amOnly had it for 1 week. Comfortable ride in front seats. Little bit chompy ride in back seats over bumps. Looks smaller than other SUV on outside, rides tall feels large inside, enough to accomadate 6-2 drivers. Gas mileage is average for this 4 cylinder SUV, only got 229 city miles on first full tank. Also some wind noise when driving on freeway at higher speeds.

WOOHOOO! - 2004 Honda Element
By mattmanr1969 - October 7 - 10:00 amIm so happy with my Element! I have 2 dogs, and like to go camping. As well, I own apartment rentals and need to haul lots of things from home depot. Fold down seats make car camping a breeze. No carpeting makes cleanup easy. I wish there were a drainhole so i could literally "hose it out".

Details are not as good as other Honda - 2005 Honda Element
By Daniel - May 18 - 6:26 pmFound the car to be fun to drive but the ride is choppy. The finish is not as good as other Honda models, i.e. rough plastic edge under the steering wheel bothers my fingers, The plastic panels are also seem to be made of weak / thin materials.
