Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

  • funky ride - 2004 Honda Element

This vehicle is extremely versitle. I have taken the seats out and carried a love seat. I have taken my family of four on long trips in comfort. Last week I drove it 1,000 miles in two days and felt good afterwards. I average 23 MPG and get up to 26 MPG. The engine is smooth, the vehicle is quiet, and I can sleep in it if I want. Plus to clean it I open the doors get out the leaf blower and bhamclean car. I have been asked so many times about the car that I embarass my 16 yr. old. The car could be heavier, have an arm rest and cruise control (I had AC, and a stereo put in immediately) Overall a great vehicle you could call it an FUV, fun utility vehicle

  • Lots of room for - 2004 Honda Element

My wife was crazy about this car after we drove it. We compared it to the Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape and the CRV looking for a reliable business vehicle to help me survive midwest winters on the road. Tall (62") children fit comfortably in back seats. Feels very large inside, but fits nicely everywhere. Bottom line - its functional and my teens think its cool; a moms car that doesnt look like a moms car. Super easy to find in a parking lot.

I have had my "E" since January and have 5,000 miles on it so far. No problems so far. There are some very minor issues that happen with almost every new car made (squeaks, rattles, etc). I like the way it handles and despite the 4 cylinder engine, it moves along just fine.

  • My Orange Box! - 2003 Honda Element

I love this SUV, that is if you can classify it as such. It reminds me of a baby hummer, a London taxi, a 1950s milk truck all rolled into one fun ride. After looking at several other SUVs I came to the conclusion they all sort of looked the same in a ho-hum style. Element has its very own identity anbd is unlike any other on the market. I do not fall into the target market Honda is aiming for but still find its logical, funtional qualities very satisfactory. Has anyone else noticed that fellow Element owners wave and or toot the horn when eye contact is made on the road?

  • Watch out for rocks - 2003 Honda Element

There is no front panel to gaurd the radiator. Watch out for rocks flying up. One went right throuh mine and insurance dosent cover road hazards. Could have been a freak accident, but I already noticed were more rocks have hit, just not gone through yet.

  • Love the "Box on Wheels" - 2005 Honda Element
    By -

Weve only had this "box on wheels" 3 weeks, but the whole family really loves it. Great for hauling the kids to school or camping gear and mountain bikes to the mountains. The ride, fit and finish is typical Honda, spot on. Could use a little more horsepower to fight the NASCAR like Atlanta traffic.

  • Not the Target Market - 2004 Honda Element
    By -

We are retired and not in Hondas target market for the Element. I think the vehicle is to practical for the X or Y generation. Its fun to drive, although the short wheel base gives a choppy ride on rough roads. Goes great in snow even without AWD.

  • Why they took so long to build it!!! - 2004 Honda Element
    By -

My wife and I are 50 and have been driving three different Chevy Tracker Convertibles since 1992. We purchased the Element in November of 2003. Our very first reaction was god that puppy is ugly, but after viewing one in person our opinion change almost imediately. The whole package is totally outstanding. The maintaince is unreal as well. It hardly calls for any service compared to the tracker. There is not one thing that we dislike about the Element and hope to drive it for a long time. Once again we have a FUN vehicle.

  • Perfect Package for Me - 2004 Honda Element

My lease ran up on my civic and I went into the dealership to exchange the civic for an accord. After the dealer listened to my needs as what I wanted out of my next vehicle, he suggested the element. To be honest, I wasnt very attracted to the looks of them, but he convinced me to take it for a test drive. I fell in love with it and have had no regrets!! The interior is very roomy, with lots of extra compartments. I have a dog, so the waterproof seats and flooring are great for water spills, etc. The stereo system is nice, too. Overall, I would recommend this car to anyone wanting something roomy, reliable and affordable.
