Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

I was skeptical at first, but I bought the Element anyway. It is a unique looking vehicle as well as a joy to drive. It pulls my 4 wheeler on a trailer as well as my small pontoon boat. I have the 4wd version, this helps to get the boat out of the water. Nevertheless it has plenty of power. My Element has never let me down.

I am 58 years old, so I know a little about new cars. This is greatest car I have ever owned, not counting the 69 Volkswagen camper.

The Honda Element is incredible. I have owned cars, trucks, SUVs, and minivans, but the unique Element is the perfect hybrid of all of them! I was looking at the Ford SportTrak when I test drove the Element on whim and was sold from day 1! Roomy (it must be experienced to be comprehended fully), fun to drive, killer sound system, and a look that has strangers walking up to me in parking lots to look my Element! Amazing!

  • Not as good as I expected - 2003 Honda Element

I think I got a bit of a lemon here. My Element has been back to the dealer 5 times in the 2 months Ive had it - rear bumper not attached properly, steering wheel column cover fell off, rear view mirror came loose and several rattling noises corrected. Ive owned 2 Hondas before and never had issues with build quality but now I have !

Element is very functional and can transport a lot of stuff. You will love it when you visit Home Depot and Sams Club.

  • Perfect for my lifestyle...but want something else - 2011 Honda Element

Honda, as usual, really thought through the design of this car. It is the most amazing combination of utility and flexibility I have ever owned.....aside from my 2003 Element. As a serious cyclist, this car is absolutely perfect; I can roll 2 bikes in the back (with rear seats removed, or hinged up on their sides) without taking wheels off, put gear in, and still have room to bring back several grocery bags full of stuff. Ive been able to haul tons of oddly shaped, and occasionally very large, items in the back. LOVE the utility of the car. The car, given that it is a big giant box on wheels, accelerates, corners, and brakes surprisingly well. The turning circle is one of the smallest (making the car supremely maneuverable) that Ive ever been in. The 4-wheel drive is completely unobtrusive and works GREAT in snow and ice.....saved my butt several times. Now, its time for the gripes....which unfortunately are many: the car is NOISY....hard to have a conversation when at highway speeds, gas mileage is around 20 mpg no matter how I drive (Im excited when I get 22 on the highway!) which bugs me greatly for a 4 cylinder car, the seats start out ok, but after about 50k miles get just plain uncomfortable.....and that was with me getting extra foam installed when they were new!, the car develops rattles after 60k, and the ride quality is pretty harsh. I really wish that Acura had done an upmarket version of this car, I GLADLY wouldve paid the price for a quieter, better handling, more comfortable car with some more creature comforts. Instead, Honda just stopped making this truly one of a kind vehicle, and now Im stuck. I cried when someone hit me and totalled the car. What else can I get that even comes close to this incredible combination of attributes that happens to fit my life to a T?

  • Dont Judge a Book by the Cover - 2004 Honda Element

I test drove the CRV and Element both, and found the Element to be years ahead in interior and exterior design both. The CR-V is great if you are want the Soccer Mom look (especially inside) but the Element is much more appealing to the single crowd. There is nothing you cant do with this versital SUV! Everything from Treadmills to BBQ Grills have been hauled in my new Element, with no hassle at all.
