Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

  • It is what it does, no more and no less. - 2003 Honda Element

A post-post-modern car. Practically every other vehicle on the market is designed in such a way as to suggest the image of doing something cool (as in the addled judgment of impressionable, consumerist adolescents), without actually doing anything practical. Witness the metastasic cancer of spoilers on econo-sedans. But this car is free from such wannabe thinking. Sure the ads are targeting young people, but Ive gotten kudos from folks aged 40+. Young folks just want civics on nitrous with cheesy ground-effects panels; to hell with them. This car is for realistic people.

  • Drive a concept vehicle now! - 2003 Honda Element

Ive had my Element for a month and I love it. Even my neighbors have grown fond of its looks too. Usually, you have to wait a few years before your able to purchase a vehicle that has a concept appearance to it. Not now! I receive looks on the road, and people even stop me to see what Im driving. Honda did a wonderful job on this vehicle. I love mine and probably will for some time. It handle like a car, and the utility of this vehicle is unlimited Try one, and youll never regret it.

  • Neat but Cheap - 2003 Honda Element

My only negative comment is the cost cutting coners taken by Honda. The Element cost more than my Accord but lacks simply inexpensive interior features that the Accord has. No drivers side sun visor mirror, the decent armrest (with storage) is an option instead of standard and the windshield wippers intermitent "one" speed instead of adjustable speeds are three features that any other Honda comes with. The car rides great and is much more roomy that you would imagine.

  • Best all around vehicle Ive owned - 2005 Honda Element

You can take a long trip in this car and not feel completely wrecked when you arrive. Very comfortable ride and tons of passenger space. Limo room, turn on a dime, and short enough to parallel park anywhere! Use the cruise control though; it feels like 50 mph when youre doing 70 mph or better. I have a Honda DelSol which feels like Im wearing it when Im driving; the Element is the same length and feels like youre in your living room. I cant say enough. Also 25mpg from day one!

  • Ultimate UTILITY Vehicle - 2004 Honda Element

After owning the Element for over a year, I can truly say that this is one of the best vehicles I have ever bought. My one year old, my dog, all of the stuff that comes with a one year old and a dog, and suitcases, etc. fit perfectly. Excellent all wheel drive in the snow. The car also is a blast to get dirty and easy to clean up. Good power from the 4cyl and the automatic matches up well with it. Gas mileage of about 21 in town and 24 on the hwy has been pretty good for an SUV. And, as usual with a Honda, NO PROBLEMS. The car has only been to shop for routine oil changes and tire rotation. Great car, I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Honda Element Experience (new) - 2004 Honda Element

Ive only had it a few days, but like it a lot. Got only 18 gallons on first tank, so am still waiting to see what the future brings. Dealer may not have topped it off on delivery. It is fun to drive, responsive. It is easy to park and leaves me much more room in my garage. My wife likes it too. I moved from a 95 Nissan pickup. Road noise is way less in the Element. I dont have to turn the radio up when I get on the freeway.

  • It is what it is. - 2003 Honda Element

This rig is very utilitarian. Rides pretty rough and is pretty spartan on comfort. There are not many little features or even big features. That said it will be used to bike and camp, and for that it should work. Needs more driver leg room. The aux jacks should work when the key is off. The plastic scratches way to easy and the seats are a pain to remove.

I have owned 7 Hondas in my life and this one is the most fun.Lots of room inside, sound system kicks you know what. My two large dogs love it, its amazing how much stuff will fit in it.

I fell in love with these at the Car Show in San Diego. I went out the next day and bought one. The acceleration is impressive considering its only a 4 cylinder. After installing an after market intake from AEM it is down right scary. My wife and I love it for our dogs. On long trips we don’t worry about them being in the back of a pick up truck.

  • honda element ex 5sp awd practical - 2005 Honda Element

a practical auto with good ride and handling characteristics. Performance just ok but fine for a vehicle of this type. gas mileage not great but liveable. Concerned about high rpm. My saab at 70mph operated at 2700, the element at 3700. Should have a 6th gear which would also increase gas mileage.
