This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Honda Element lineup gets an LX model to slot between the existing DX and EX models. New equipment on EX models includes keyless entry, a passenger-seat armrest as standard, and bungee-cord fasteners on the driver-side front and rear seat backs.

Pros:
  • Impressively versatile interior, optional all-wheel drive, smooth four-cylinder engine, styled as if out of a Japanese animation movie.
Cons:
  • Only seats four, clamshell doors hinder entry/exit for rear-seat passengers.

Versatile. Many fact. add-ons (fog lights, tow bar, etc) are overpriced I chose aftermarket ones. Wife & I haul a roof box, bikes, kayak, dog & camp gear all at once. Lots of road noise & seats offer very little back suppport for long trips, yet are versatile. Im unhappy with the syncros/shifting in the manual tranny yet AWD system has been amazing in all conditions.24.8 mpg average. The angle of the windshield makes it prone to rock chips in MN winters. The plastic floor, interior & body panels make for easy cleaning, but scratch easily. Great SUV for GenX outdoor folks that like attention and Honda Reliability. Only problem has been with body panel frame creaks. In time Honda will perfect it!

  • Making the Element even better - 2004 Honda Element

I was initially attracted to the Element because of its interior head and shoulder room. After driving my Element for two years, I am impressed by its road handling. The steering and handling were an added benefit that I did not expect. I hope I can say this 4-5 years from now.

Maybe I am biased b/c I have wanted to own an Element since it was the Honda Model X...but let me say, now that i have one it is all I thought it would be and more. It handles well, AWD takes it offroad easy (although low clearance limits the possibilities), tons of room to cram stuff, people (I have gotten up to 7 cramemd in), anything into it. The fold down/up/removable seats/beds are great for camping or hauling wood and tools. The Element is by far the most fun vehicle I have ever driven, and if you tack on a few accessories (I have almost all of them) it gets even better.

I just purchased my certified used 2004 EX and I couldnt be more thrilled. I realize I have not had the extensive experience with it some others have had, but simply coming from a very low mileage vehicle (Land Rover) to this, I was ecstatic the first time I had to go to the pump! I think the design is great and the interior is HUGE. Rides great and again, coming from the Land Rover, the wind noise is no worse, even with the less than aerodynamic design. If you are looking for lots of space and functionality, get one of these. It is fun to drive and the stereo on the EX is KILLER! If you are at all like me, the looks will grow on you too.

This is a darn good vehicle, especially in its first year on the market. Well researched and thoughtfully decked out. Great fun to drive. Unequalled head and foot room. Great car!!!

I have an Olds Regency 98 Brougham and a Ford T-Bird. Last December, I bought a new Element. My husband andI "fight" over who gets to drive it to our respective jobs. The other two cars are great but just dont get that "fun" thing working for me. I am a librarian and a senior citizen but I am just a kid when I am in my ELEMENT!

I love this car! I am 23, and have a large dog. No hair on those seats, easy cleaning for the inside. The room you have is unbelievable. Side doors are the best. Would love to see the sun room done electrically.

I switched from a Mercedes C220 (which I really liked) to the Element and got an improvement in highway driving comfort. Flexibility and roominess is unmatched. Highway ride much better than my friends Yukon. Right door joint creaks/clinks occasionally on rough road; drivers side totally noiseless.

  • River Vehicle - 2004 Honda Element

Bought the Element because we were looking for an alternative to a truck and for something that had pizazz. We haul a lot of stuff back and forth to our river house and needed flexability in loading up the vehicle. Have had Hondas in the past (last vehicle was a Prelude) and the reliabilty overall is excellent from prior experiences.
