The Honda Crosstour is essentially a tall wagon version of the previous-generation Accord sedan that features increased ride height and available all-wheel drive (AWD), a combination that delivers more utility and more all-weather capability. It's certainly more versatile than a regular Accord, but that tapering roof line means there's considerably less cargo space than there would be in a conventional wagon or SUV with its traditional boxy shape.

In other words, if you're drawn toward the composed ride and handling dynamics of an Accord sedan but want more cargo space and/or the option of all-wheel drive, then the Crosstour is worth considering. But unless the Crosstour's somewhat controversial design strikes a chord with you, there are more sensible crossovers out there.

Current Honda Crosstour
The Honda Crosstour comes in two trim levels -- EX and EX-L. The EX comes with automatic headlights, a sunroof, a power driver seat, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a seven-speaker audio system with a six-CD changer and an iPod/USB audio interface. The V6 version of the EX tacks on extra equipment including a rearview camera, a blind-spot warning system, keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and Bluetooth audio. The EX-L adds to those items things like bigger wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver memory settings and satellite radio. The one option for the Crosstour is a navigation system, which is only available on the EX-L.

The Honda Crosstour offers a choice of two engines -- a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 192 horsepower or a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 hp. A five-speed automatic is standard on the four while a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters comes with the V6. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available on the EX-L V6.

On the road, performance of the inline-4-powered Crosstour is lackluster, which is no surprise given this Honda's near 2-ton mass and the price paid for the higher fuel mileage. And though the overall acceleration delivered by the V6 is more than adequate, the off-the-mark performance is a little soft due to a lack of torque. But despite the Honda Crosstour's elevated center of gravity and extra 300 pounds compared to the Accord sedan, it's still pleasant to drive, with predictable steering, composed handling and a quiet interior.

Those familiar with the previous-generation Accord sedan would feel right at home in the Crosstour's cabin, from the decent materials to the solid fit and finish. The current Accord sedan is a step up, however, in terms of quality, functionality and appearance. In particular, the Crosstour suffers from a glut of unattractive buttons and the optional navigation system only adds to the clutter.

The Crosstour's sloping roof line eats into rear cargo space -- there's only a bit over 51 cubic feet with the rear seatbacks folded -- though rear passengers enjoy ample leg- and headroom.

Used Honda Crosstour Models
The Honda Crosstour debuted for the 2012 model year, though that essentially just signaled a name change for this model, as it was produced the previous two years under the Accord Crosstour moniker.

Regardless of the name, it differs slightly from today's vehicle. The four-cylinder was not always available, while the V6 produced 271 hp prior to 2013. Its transmission was also a five-speed unit and fuel economy ratings were slightly lower for both engines. These pre-'13 Crosstours looked a little different and had fewer features available.

  Comfortable Drive - 2012 Honda Crosstour

  I have been driving my 6-cyl 2012 Crosstour for three weeks now. I shopped for over a year for a new vehicle. Leaving a SUV, I had mixed feelings to go down to a lower height vehicle. The mid range height of the Crosstour was the main attraction for my purchase. I have no problem getting in, or out of the vehicle. The heated seats feel great of my lower back also. I agree with other reviews on the sound system, roominess, and quietness: Excellent. My husband said it was tight. One thing I notice on two lane roads... when i wish to pass around other vehicles, I just go. No hesitation. I feel confidence in this car.

  Needed a change! - 2012 Honda Crosstour

  Just recently this month traded a 2009 Honda Pilot in for a 2011 Cross-tour! I love this car, no regrets of downsizing. I notice either people love this car or want nothing to do with it. I found the car offered a lot. The pilot was just a little to big for me and I missed the car feel. the crosstour drives very nice and has a lot of upgrades in it. I bought a V-6 and the car has power. The rear window does take some getting use to but the back up camera helps a lot with that! I find the car to accommodate my needs very nicely and when I have talked to people randomly of how they like the car, they all have said they LOVE it!

  Bought this car back in July of 2012. Rides like a 5-series BMW, tight, strong, very smooth. Traction control on car is EXCELLENT. Idiot hit me in rear end very hard, few scrapes on back bumper, very strong car. Great on gas too, the only jab is the power in this car sucks. But if I wanted that, I would have bought a porsche, not a Honda. Even so, it would be nice to have at least 70 more hp in this 4 cycl. For sure when my lease is up, Im getting the 6 cycl. Great car though, 4 REAL size people can sit in this car, and I mean 62" 200 lbs dudes and leave plenty of head and leg room. Cudos to Honda on this car, but please, MORE POWER in 2014.

  Coming from an older accord this is a nice transition, without going to big and boxy SUV. Particularly like the blue dash lights, large nav screen, xm buttons, darkened rear windows, 3 view rear camera, right side camera on demand, safety rating. Banking on Honda reliability Ive had in past.

  I knew the vehicle I wanted when I walked into the dealership and the dealership in its own right is a whole different ball of wax nor do I wish to elaborate. The Crosstour has better handling than I expected from other reviewers though not as good as the 2011 accord which I also own. Four wheel drive I learned by the way does not mean you can go over 60 on ice and snow and not expect to spin out. The car did manage to right itself again when in a 200 yard skid over ice and snow as I realized the safe alternative would have been to travel at like 40 give or take in the first place. I didnt hit anyone or anything fortunately as the thoughts were going through my head, "please not the mail box, and I dont see anyone in front or behind me!" I have had it off road and it can get frustrating in thicker mud as it seems to clump and traction seems a little less (with no dents or scratches). It seems to have good cargo space as I am able to fit my string bass in the back and the seats all to easily come down. I also like the cabin as it reminds me of my old 1979 toyota celica supra with a lot more comfort. The ride is very good with little or no distortion over bumps or rough road. As with any car I recommend Sea Foam gas and oil treatment every 3 - 6 months.

  Just bought my 2013 crosstour and love it. It drives well and has plenty of room. Its quiet inside and has a very smooth ride. The heated leather are great.

  Make sure youre coming comfortable in this car, thats one of the only things I dont like about it, and the reason I would sell it, its not a fun car to drive, point A to B. At nothing more, the power..yes only the v6, I wish mine was AWD it may make a difference in performance significantly,

  I cant ever say with all of the cars that Ive owned that I found and owned one that is chic, sporty, unique and as eclectic as this particular vehicle. Its a bit deceiving because youre actually driving an SUV but you really dont know that its an SUV. I have so many people asking me, what kind of car is that! Theyre very surprised that its a Honda. Many think its a BMW. I love everything about this vehicle. Everything!
