This Year's Model Updates:

The big news this year is the return of the Civic Si. Featuring an exclusive two-door hatchback body style, the new Si has a 160-horsepower engine. All 2002 Honda Civic sedans and coupes feature a revised steering box for improved driving feel, added sound insulation and slightly tweaked suspension tuning. There are also some smattering of interior storage and comfort upgrades this year.

Pros:
  • Fuel efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • Honda = Chrysler now - 2002 Honda Civic

Purchased new with 6 miles on it and drove it for 5 years (80,000) miles. Reliability and Honda service was terrible. At 35,400 miles, third gear synchro went out on manual transmission. I have been driving manuals for 25 years and I have a CDL and I never burned out a clutch or damaged a tranny. Fixed under warranty but never shifted right again (grinded and clunked when going into gear) and shifter was VERY stiff and VERY difficult to down shift. Took back 4 times and dealer said it was fine!? Called Honda Corporate and wrote letters, no help at all. All 4 struts went out at 40,000 miles too ($1300). Road noise terrible, factory tires rated worst on tirerack and hydroplaned very badly.

  • CAN I HAVE MY MONEY BACK - 2002 Honda Civic

FIT AND FINISH IS TOP NOTCH, BUT QUALITY OF MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION IS POOR. MANY THINGS HAVE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 24K. DEALERS WOULD NOT REPAIR AND IT TOOK A LAWSUIT TO GET HONDA TO FIX A ROCKING SEAT THAT HAD BEEN REPAIRED 3 TIMES PRIOR, A DEFECTIVE STEERING RACK AND FRONT STRUTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE CLOTH CAME OFF ALL 4 DOOR PANELS, THE TRUNK LOCK BROKE, THE AC DOES NOT WORK WELL, THE COMPUTER NEEDED REPROGRAMMING DUE TO EPA FAILURE, THE RADIO CHANGES STATIONS WHEN YOU OPEN THE SUN ROOF, THE CARPET CAME OUT OF THE FLOOR MATS AND THE LIST GOES ON.

Has had constant issues with the emissions/ fuel systems. After only 20,000 had to replace catalytic converter - Honda offered NO help, and in fact tells me they just cant give me the normal trade in amount becuase the car doesnt run well!!!!

I made a big mistake to buy this junk car. It is so noisy and it is not reliable. I changed the springs in the front suspension and I will have to fix the noise come from the brake or steering.

  • The Lemon - 2002 Honda Civic

This has 27,000 and has been in the shop for 15 quality defects. 3 times the drivers seat came unbolted from the floor. All 4 interior door panels were replaced - fabric coming off. The trunk lock failed. The windows had no track lube from the factory. The floor mats wore out. The steering and exhaust rattle. The drivetrain rocks when the car is started on a hill. The steering thunks, but the dealer cant duplicate. The car does not start and it stalls on the highway in 90+ weather which the dealer has not fixed. The car also does not meet EPA regulations. I would stay away from this Honda quality if I was you.

  • lot of hype - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Within weeks of purchase the car had to be taken to a honda dealer twice because of engine malfunction light coming on twice. The dealer has no idea what is wrong with it or how to fix it .Opinion is that low emission hondas have too many sensors causing problems. A car that spends a lot of time at the dealership will naturally have low emissions. What a concept, a lemon by design..........
